China Ready To Nuke U.S. Over Taiwan

BEIJING (Reuters) - Remarks by a Chinese general that Beijing could use "Nuclear Arms" against the United States in a war over Taiwan were his personal views, but China will never allow Taiwan to be independent, China's Foreign Ministry said.

"We will firmly abide by the principles of peaceful reunification and 'one country two systems' and we will express the deepest sincerity and exert the greatest efforts to realize peaceful reunification," state-mouthpiece Xinhua news agency reported a ministry spokesman as saying late on Friday.

But, he added: "We will never tolerate 'Taiwan Independence', neither will we allow anybody with any means to separate Taiwan from the motherland."

The Financial Times reported on Friday that Zhu Chenghu, a general in the People's Liberation Army, said China would have no option but to go nuclear in the event of an attack over the contentious Taiwan issue.

Zhu had told reporters visiting from Hong Kong he was expressing his own views and did not anticipate a conflict with Washington, it said.

Nevertheless, a State Department spokesman called the remarks irresponsible.

Beijing considers Taiwan, split politically from the mainland since 1949, a part of China and has vowed to bring the it back into the fold. In March, China passed an anti-secession law authorizing the use of "non-peaceful means" to do so.

While the United States only recognizes one China and says it does not support Taiwan independence, Washington is bound by law to help the democratic island of 23 million people defend itself.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman did not explicitly say that Zhu's comments conflicted with policy. However, China has had a declared policy of not using its nuclear weapons unless it has already suffered nuclear attack.

Zhu is dean of China's University of National Defense.

"Zhu had repeatedly emphasized that he would express personal views on the issues that the reporters are interested in before they started discussions," the Foreign Ministry spokesman said.

He said he hoped the United States would "join efforts with China to maintain the peace and stability across the Taiwan Straits."

"We firmly believe it is in the interests of both China and the United States, as well as benefits the peace, stability and development of the Asia Pacific region and the whole world, to oppose 'Taiwan Independence' and maintain the peace and stability across the Taiwan Straits," he was quoted as saying.

Does that tell you what authority or knowledge Zhu would have over nukes?

I wonder why did American never used the term of "nuclear claims" in Taiwan issue.

If I were US President, since the Chinese invasion force gathering, just nuke the invasion force to shut this retard f--- up.

Perhaps he reads this message board. I have seen comments here that the US might go nuclear over a conflict in that part of the world.

I'm sure they are, and I'm sure we're "ready" to do the same.

China refuses to back down on nuclear threat

BEIJING: China refused on Saturday to retract statements made by a leading general that it would use nuclear weapons to repulse US military intervention over Taiwan despite Washington’s criticism of the remarks.

But Beijing insisted that it would resolutely seek to resolve the Taiwan issue in a peaceful manner. "We will never tolerate ‘Taiwan Independence’, neither will we allow anybody with any means to separate Taiwan from the motherland," a foreign ministry spokesman told AFP. "We hope the United States will fulfil its commitments (on Taiwan) with concrete actions and join efforts with China to maintain the peace and stability across the Taiwan Straits."

The spokesman was commenting on statements made this week by General Zhu Chenghu, dean of China’s National Defense University, who said China, could launch a nuclear attack on "hundreds" of US cities if Washington interfered militarily in the Taiwan issue. "If the Americans draw their missiles and position-guided ammunition on to the target zone on China’s territory, I think we will have to respond with nuclear weapons," Zhu.

Nice they let us know really. So if they appear to be preparing an attack on Taiwan, then the USA will be justified in striking first...

Remember Sun Tzu's famous words: "All warfare is based on deception."

If thay say one thing, it probably means something other than what you heard.

So you’re saying that China might have some sort of an ongoing plan which aims to cripple the U.S. capability to win a war against them?

    China's Evil Economic Practices

China Purchases $195 Billion of Foreign Currencies

In 2004, China purchased $195 billion in foreign currency—much of it dollars—to maintain its yuan peg at 8.28 per dollar. These purchases are the linchpin of China’s mercantilist development strategy and rob growth and jobs from the United States and China’s other tradingpartners.

In a nutshell, each year China’s exports grow faster than its imports, creating new jobs in China. The yuan sought by foreigners in currency markets to pay for China’s exports exceed the yuan supplied by Chinese to purchase foreign goods. This excess demand for yuan should cause its value to increase making Chinese exports more expensive and foreign goods in China cheaper. To short circuit this process, Chinese monetary authorities print yuan and satisfy the excess demand by purchasing dollars and other currencies in international markets.

Each year these purchases grow and in 2004 these reached 12 percent of China’s GDP and 33 percent of its exports—this is the largest export subsidy in history.

China’s strategy encourages other Asian governments to follow similar policies, and this is the reason why the U.S. dollar, despite falling 26 percent against the Euro and other industrial country currencies since January 2002, has risen 1.7 percent against developing country currencies. Chronic overvaluation of the dollar against Asian currencies is forcing U.S. manufacturing to relocate to China and other offshore destinations.

Overall the combined effects of foreign currency purchases is knocking a percentage point a year off U.S. growth and costing U.S. workers about 1.5 million manufacturing jobs. Were China andother foreign governments to cease their currency manipulation, the U.S. economy could sustain growth near 5 percent a year and unemployment would likely fall to about 4 percent over three years.
