Interesting article - on the noise of wind turbines, closest I've been to spending a night near some was about 70 meters away (which is quite close) camping in Fermanagh. They were big, and made basically no noise, so there could be a degree of grumpiness and local 'complain about anything' to the residents claims.
It is true however that the energy created from wind power isn't the most practical system, and has a large degree of uncertainty about it. Wave and hydro are much more consistent and a better investment in the long run, if your blessed enough to have suitable sites. Green energy tech has a long way to go before we see it's true potential realised. The key thing is to encourage investment and research by both government and private sector in how to make it better and more efficient, as well as dealing with scale, which has always been it's biggest problem (it can light a village hoo-rah, but not a big city, which leaves it pretty useless).
