Making him stay where he is doesn't serve any purpose? Why is he behind prison walls to begin with?
The father did not think ahead, to see what consequences could result from his illegal actions. Hence, methinks he's already lost this battle--the one where his objective is to successfully assist in the proper raising of his daughter.
