Bush’s best moment in office? Catching big fish
President tells German newspaper landing perch was best, 9/11 the worst

    Updated: 4:30 a.m. ET May 8, 2006

BERLIN - President Bush told a German newspaper his best moment in more than five years in office was catching a big perch in his own lake.

"You know, I've experienced many great moments, and it's hard to name the best," Bush told weekly Bild am Sonntag when asked about his high point since becoming president in January 2001.

"I would say the best moment of all was when I caught a 7.5-pound perch in my lake," he told the newspaper in an interview published Sunday. Bush said the worst moment was Sept. 11, 2001, when hijacked planes crashed into the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Washington.

"In such a situation it takes a while before one understands what is happening," Bush said. "I would say that this was the hardest moment, once I had the real picture before my eyes."

Because Bild could not immediately furnish English quotes, Bush's comments were translated from the German. The paper said the White House planned to release an authorized English version of the interview Monday.

Yeah, being the president of the free world is a thankless job. It's usually one crisis after another, and not just in your own back yard. It's from Middle East to Central Africa to Southeast Asia to the Mexican border to world oil prices to nuclear proliferation...and on and on and on.

I can't imagine how anyone actually want to be the president.

Big white house, big blue jet.

That wouldn't be enough for me, either.

I'm amazed at how much presidents age in just 4-8 years.

He may even miscalculate and slide these weapons off to terrorist groups to invite them to be a surrogate to use them against the United States. It’s the miscalculation that poses the greatest threat-John Kerry

His greatest moment was standing on the rubble of the WTC with a megaphone in his hand and his arm around a FDNY fireman.

In fact, that is one of the greatest presidential moments in history IMO.

    I agree whole-heartily.

I can still hear his words coming out of the megaphone "they will hear from us...they will hear from all of us."

It ranks right up there with "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!!!"

Yeah, that's something for sure. I remember watching some show on TV "before, and after" the presidents toke office. The change in some cases was almost unbelievable. Clinton was one that I remembered a significant change in.

    A good observation.

See any head of state and you will find that he has greyed!

This I realised first when I saw Clinton and then Musharraf (on TV that is).

Blair, who was so youthful, looks as if a PGM hs hit him!

just because it's been a while since last i posted. I know it's useless for me to point this out, but it certainly is consistent with this president to lie:
