Confed,
Queen Rania of Jordan (a pretty modern young queen and actually a Palestinian) in an interview in India, where she came for a debate, said that in Moslem countries, they feel democracy is an imported item!!
You should probably go back and read his posts on the subject again, he stated repeatedly that he didn't want it to happen, but the failure of the "moderate" Muslims to take care of their problems will end up forcing it. If you do not take care of your own problems, someone else is going to come along and feel they have to do it for you. Iraq twice for example, why didn't the Muslim countries take care of that mad man, and the PR nightmare that came with him, themselves? Afghanistan, where were the Muslim countries standing against the Taliban? Iran, if they don't want them to be attacked, then why are the Muslim countries sitting on their hands, or outright supporting Iran? It isn't us wishing for genocide, we're not the ones making it happen, not even remotely. Stop trying to justify the motives of terrorists and tyrants, and speak out against them, because, like it or not, their actions are being done in the name of your religion.Originally Posted by Lunatock

I agree completely with this Administration’s goal of a regime change in Iraq-John Kerry
even if that enforcement is mostly at the hands of the United States, a right we retain even if the Security Council fails to act-John Kerry
He may even miscalculate and slide these weapons off to terrorist groups to invite them to be a surrogate to use them against the United States. It’s the miscalculation that poses the greatest threat-John Kerry

Good idea...I've been doing that pretty much from the get-go. Though my efforts mean dick to American fifth columnists.Originally Posted by Confed999

So, you rather be an MP and not a combat soldier?"I have said before that if fate had smiled on me a bit more, I'd probably be an MP in Iraq or Afghanistan right about now.
In fact I imagined breaking up an argument or a fight between an Afghan, An Indian officer, and a US Infantryman.
The Afghan would rant about US Terrorism in Iraq
The Indian would complain about being singled out
And the Infantryman would call me a fifth columnist, and apologist, and a traitor."
So, you desired not to be where the flak is or where your country wanted you most!
So, in short, it all boils down to aggressive power hunger, right?
Surprisingly, even though I have been asoldier and have been wounded in combat and have seen battle and insurgency, I don't have that aggressive power hunger.
Could it be that my psyche is tempered by the fact that no religion or events in my life has been able to influence me to hanker for power to subjugate others?
Stupid as it maybe, I knew a Kashmiri militant leader quite well.

No that's just one of the jobs I would of been most qualified for IMO. That and the 10th Mountain would be two of the most likely choices, due to the geography of where I've grown up.Originally Posted by Ray
OK.
But why an MP?
Go for 10 Mountain and I am sure you would do a marvellous job and do yourself and your country proud.
My best wishes are with you.

"If fate had smiled apon me more." Alas it hadn't, and thus one less pair of boots on the ground in Afghanistan or Iraq. Life sucks like that sometimes.Originally Posted by Ray

Which one?
Why?
Are you the ISI?
Want to stop his funding?

Ok.
He is dead and so your ISI can do damn nothing to him.
He was Hamid Gada. He operated in the Gandherbal - Wular belt and he was a Force Commander.
I had mentioned about him earlier too.
I won't tell you any more.

It wasn't their own problem. Hindsight 20/20 it was the world's problem. Then why did the USA have to finish it? If they do not take care of their own problems somebody else will have to...
But the point is Iran actively opposed the Taliban. The Iran's supplied millions of dollars in money, supplies and military equipment to the UF/NA. Iran used its own territory to train anti Taliban units. And Iran fought a brutal border conflict with Taliban and Pakistani drug runners. That border conflict saw AH-1s, F-4Es, EMB-312s and Mirage F-1s striking enemy targets and bands of heavily armed drug runners. The IRIAF Mirage F-1 that was shot down before 9-11 by an SA-14 was lost to one of those groups.
It is noteworthy that Iran was actually looking for American support when they massed over one hundred thousand troops on the border with Afghanistan preparing an invasion after the second fall of Mazar-e-Sharif and the murder of Iranian diplomats and the masscare of the Hazaras. Of course many in Washington saw the Taliban as a counter to Iran at that time. Still doesn't make it America's fault, just that people lacked the thinking at the time to see the Taliban was a danger to the world.
Still one could have only wished that they had crossed into Afghanistan in force. That probably could have lead to open warfare between Iran and Pakistan.
