And we have people who continues to worship Osama Bin Ladden. That will never change. Do recall that the Chinese have declared the Dali Lama a criminal. Blood has been spilt in his name. Despite his passive leanings, he had supported the Tibetan insurgency (along with both American money and Indian arms). Just because the Dali Lama has preached peaceful methods lately does not mean the Chinese have forgotten.

I understand why the American government supports Tibet. But what I don't understand is why the American public also supports the establishment or the re-establishment of an oppressive religious theocracy?

It was never an oppressive religious theocracy and it will not become one in the future. please go to the Tibetan Government in Exile's web site to see some different point of view.

On a more related note, OoE, you mentioned lack of higher level capable leaders in the RoCA. What about the officer corps of the PLA and RoCA. How do they compare?

Of course they're not gonna tell you they're an oppressive theocracy. Check with the Iranian government site and they'll tell you they're all peachy.

Historically speaking, the monks or the lamas have always held the power in Tibet. CCP may have been a totalitarian regime, but at least Tibet is now more prosperous than before.

Sorry, TR,

I will disagree right off the bat. When the Chinese came in, Tibet was nothing more than a slave state. Whether the people agree with it or not is not, it's a matter of historic fact.

Whether it becomes one or not under true Tibetan rule is another question but I for one do not believe it will be the Tibetans in India who will decide. And I do believe that BAYWATCH will win over the Dali Lama right now and the future ... and the Dali Lama knows this.

I don't understand. Rephrase your question. What do you want to know?

How many Americans noticed the Dali Lama is riding around in a Rolls Royce and wearing a Rollex?

With or without escort? And depending on how serious the chinese are in their determination. Though I don't the whole scenario is very realistic too, but just maybe a bit more then an outright invasion.

Does it matter? The very fact is that if the Chinese stopped an American or a Japanese flagged vessel, she is declaring an act of war against those countries ... who have far superior naval forces than the Chinese can dream off.

But how fast could the US react? Would it not take considerable time to put a strong task force together? (And even more if the US is already busy at other hot spots?)

Busy where?

It is the USArmy who is stretched, not the USAF and certainly not the USN. Even if the US is stretched, the Japanese are not and the Japanese Naval Force is far, far, far superior than the PLAN.

All in all, expect a response within 24 hours.

Our navy can take on every other navy on earth... combined. We are the only ones with real fleet carriers, and that gives us a decisive margin at sea against any opponent.

I was thinking about this happening not now, but more in decade or something like that. Would not have thought that a respond could have been this quickly, but would the japanese constition allow a reaction? Even if on of their ships was boarded?
