There is very little ocean area that is not covered - or can be covered relatively quickly - by a carrier. There's nothing prodigal about a nation's warships cruising in international waters. If you are a law-abiding country, then you really have nothing to fear and a lot to be happy about if a US CSG is in your neighborhood...especially if a tsunami or other natural or manmade disaster should befall you. |

There are an additional 2 conventionally-powered supercarriers as well. As for where they are positioned, the answer is anywhere and everywhere. They are homeported on both coasts of the United States, and 1 carrier is permanently homeported in Japan. This image is somewhat out of date, but it gives you an idea of the worldwide carrier strength of all nations. |

One note of fun TH...If I could shrink the picture down I have a pic of PNSY in the 80's. Note this is a very small reserve fleet. However the pic would show 2(BB's) 1(CV) 1(Sm CV) 12(DD's) 1(CA) 1(FF) and various other escorts. all in the small reserve. This "small" reserve is more firepower then most countries Navy's can even field at one given time. And this is only one small reserve. ![]()

To rattle the every dictator in the world by an aircraft carrier…I really doubt… And especially considering there is no oil in Northern Korea... This is necessary to spend some weeks or months for repair and other preparations to drive a carrier to blue-water. And several escort ships with it. And ground-based aircraft along carrier's way - reconnaissance and anti-submarine… Too much time, too much money are needed. Last edited by MrFirst : 01-13-2007 at 16:14 PM. |
