An Appeal to the Mods and Sub Continental Posters
We subcontinentals are sensitive to a fault, overly emotional and quick to take umbrage.
I include myself, too, in that categorisation. And we love a controversy and thereafter dive into a most "energetic" debate and churn out a whole lot of researched links etc. This is excellent for education. There is no doubt about that. I, for one, have been highly educated from these controversial subjects and I have no qualms in admitting the same. Let controversial topic come for our education. However, can we not use moderate language? I, too, am guilty. Can we not moderate our syntax? Must they be provocative? I am sure I too must have inadvertently been guilty of the same. I am sure we can, as I say, "Take it easy and look busy"! Let us debate, including the controversial issues, but with temperance. I agree the "fun" maybe lost, but if we debate sensibly, greater knowledge with flow and it will be less of the famous Americanism I learnt on the WAB, cluster -f uck. There I go with a bad word! We subcontinentals can never change? There are people who are very volatile and very emotional. I, with no prejudice state that, say, like Asim. Is he a virulent Islamist? I dare say, NO. He is just a young man, in an Islamic country. Can we honestly say that the environment in that country will not affect his psyche? Even today there is a report by Reuters from Dubai that the AQ has put up an ad for recruits for their video and reporting! I am sure that is being discussed amongst peers and I am sure that affects the psyche and that psyche inadvertently surface on WAB! True, his post's content may not be palatable to some or even many. Therefore, would it not be better to bring him to understand what he may like to consider? And anyway, his also gives an insight into the psyche prevelant. Now compare him with Hongkong. Take Hongkong's thread. He based his argument on just one Report by Bose, who is but just one historian amongst the many. Obviously, that was flawed but he failed to realise the same since he had an agenda. There will be such people and they should be ignored as one ignored one of the posters who merely posted Khalistani ads one after the other but would not join debate. I would recommend that one ignores such people rather than encourage them with rejoinders. Asim, to the best of my belief, is not an agenda man. He is just a young hot blood as many around here on both sides of the divide. I sadly cannot qualify to be young hot blood. The history of India and Pakistan is not a very friendly one. In fact, it is obnoxiously hostile. Therefore, it is obvious that animosity will surface. But let it bubble gently and not boil over! Let blood not be thicker than water. Let us condemn what is condemnable. Then, and then only, will our countries, of which we are very proud of, flourish! I can only appeal. It is for those who post and those who Moderate to hear my plaintive cry. Forgive me Father, for I, too, have sinned. Last edited by Ray : 10-07-2005 at 01:30 AM. |

samudra,
I try my best to be what they call - a team man. I hate orders since most of them are senseless and I hate to give orders. I like to discuss issues wherever feasible and there is time to indulge in it (since I am not infallible) and then make up my mind. Thereafter, I used to give directions and did not give orders. The difference between orders and directions? Orders are to be obeyed explicitly. No baat cheet (discussion by anyone acceptable). Directions are those which can be changed mid course if one finds it not suiting the time and environment. They are called mid course corrections. Again, time and wherewithal of course is the consideration. |

Those directions are valid Sir.
I'm all for this. But it is my hope that your afforementioned directions, when and if followed, will not the be the ephemeral short-lived vapor that it so often has been in the recent past. ![]() You have my compliance.
