looking for m21

I'm new to this internet chat stuff. I have spent some time reading other peoples posts but this is the first one I have chose to participate in. I was reading a "thread" about bullpup rifles and saw a "handle" of "M21 sniper" adn was interested in conversing with this individual. I am very familiar with the M21 and have been out of the military since 88. I am not very versed in the internet terminology but am a fast learner so bear with me. Just looking to chew the fat if anyone wishes to chat with an "almost" old timer.

Thanks for the warm welcome. Badkharma, '86 wasn't that long ago, right? Have you seen Bragg lately? I was on google earth awhile back. Looks like the old stockade is gone. I barely recognized anything. Longstreet didn't even look that long anymore(and it has a different name now, it looked like?) Are the good times really over for good? As Merle would say.

Your welcome. I havn't been around Bragg or Fayette Nam in long time. Twenty years qualifies as a classic for automobiles . As far as good times being over I would say times have definitely changed.

Welcome

Sorry to sat that the old compound is now the US Army Garrison Unit HQ...i.e., the USAR guys who came on active duty to run FT Bragg since mobilization.

You should see the new building for the Golden Knights!!!

And most of the barracks in the Division are all brand new.

But at least the Thursday BBQ Buffet at McKellar's Lodge is good!!!

USAR guys running Bragg!!! What the hell!! where have I been?! The place looked built up but whaaa? I gotta say this guys. I turned 40 last Jul and went to talk to the recruiter( I'm kinda bored with bein' a nose pickin civi and all!) I can be 45yoa and still re-up! What a deal! Yet....with my experience and quals I haven't recieved a sweet enlistment bonus. Cripes! I shoot better now than then...and then I was top of the game. What the heck! Any you other "almost too old" guys ever think about re-uppin?

That is really weird that they wont give you a sweet deal to re-up, have you tried several different recruiters?

Welcome to the board, by the way.

I hit up the hometown guy and got nothing. So I responded to an internet pitch at military.com. I know cmf18(I don't know what they call a weapons SGT now) is out because the Q-course was rough enough at 20. I started out as an MP and you would think that should have somekind of enticement(other than the glamorous adventure). I can't seem to find a reference for the MOS's that do provide. I have a cousin in 4th ID that got 15gs for a 5yr ext and a stepbrother that had been in 9(navy) and reupped for 5 and got a ridiculous 30gs. I think I'm barkin' up the wrong branch.

7thsfsniper,

Are you a product of the old XVIII Airborne Corps AMTU school?

I attended a school at FB when I was an MP there. The instructors were 5thgp. We were trained for urban scenarios in a LE role. It was a new program started by the PM at the time to build an SRT. After that I got bored, was fascinated by the stories the SF guys told so I thought I would find out for myself. I was a weapons Sgt and displayed a preference to work in two's(or better...alone) could shoot well and the rest is....
