I can really use some XO right now.

I am afraid I've turned into some kind of snob. I can't drink cheap cocktail any more. All my pistols except for one are German. Not only German, I prefer WEST German. Well, I do have a Glock, but that's Austrian. Close enough.

At least I still drive a cheap car, using cheap gas, and I drink cheap beer.

West German guns? I am not an expert when it comes to guns but as far as I know, East Germany only had Soviet-style guns, so there are not really any east-german designed guns you could collect anyway.

My only pistol is an American-made Italian design (Beretta). I've got my eyes on a 1911, though.

I was going to buy a cheap IOF or refurbished revolver but somehow didn't manage to find the time [its a long process here, lots of beaurocratic hassles and red tapism], but I'd have to do it soon anyway since the Arms License I got says you have to get a gun within 6 months and get it registered or the license is cancelled.

I have a few Sig Sauer pistols. I prefer mine with "Made in W. Germany" stamped on the side. The newer ones have "Made in Germany" stamped on the side. The even more recent ones are actually American slides and barrels on German frames. I tend to stay away from those. The QC of those pistols are not up to par of the older West German guns.

I'm looking for a Beretta actually. I want a Beretta 84, any variation. That model looks like the much bigger 92 but fires 380ACP (9mm Kurz). Personally, I think the 84, being smaller, looks more elegant than the 92. It's actually much larger than other 380ACP pistols though. Many people don't like it because of that.

Knaur, what are you looking to get?

          Soooo...anyone like cognac here?

            Gunnut,

Anything cheap since guns are horribly overpriced here, plus I haven't owned any gun before and the license says 25 rounds per year is the max allowed to buy , so not much chance of regular shooting. IOF is Indian Ordinance Factory, they seem to be making the only new revolvers available in the market under 2000USD but the red tape involved is horrendous. I went to a gun shop one day and the chap said old refurbished Webley's in .32 Non Prohibited Bore are also availble for that price, so thats something. I am afraid I might run out of time if I don't buy anything before Nov. and then I'd have to go through all the clearances and bribes involved for getting a license again

              Knaur,

Do you know what Indian law is concerning re-loading your own ammunition? That could possibly be a way around your 25 rounds per year limitation;).

                  That sucks.

How about brewing your own beer or distill your own spirits? Are those illegal as well?

At least here we can brew our own beer. One of the few things Carter did right. Of course it's still illegal to distill our own spirits. I wonder why?

No point goin' second class if you don't have to. When I drink Brandy it is quality Congac or Armagnac. When I drink whiskey it is single malt or Black Bush. Fortified wines from the Rutherglen region of Nth Victoria (close to where my ancestors set up shop 150 years ago). Quality beer from Tasmania - Boags or Cascade preferable (only drinkable light beer in existence).

I see no need to live like a peasant just because others choose to.:))

What's a good brand that you recommend?

Some of them are just a tad expensive for me to buy a bottle to experiment with.

                          GN,

Because we don't have a 'quote' facility in these groups it might be an idea to use a name to indicate if you are asking a question to a specific person.

If the last one was aimed at me, my question would be 'a good brand of what' - Cognac or Single Malt? I have drunk a wider variety of the latter, but I'm happy to pitch in with suggestions on both (warning, good Cognac ain't cheap - as I'm sure you know).

BF, thanks, I just replied out of habit, not using names.

Actually I would like to know both, cognac and single malt. What do you recommend that you think is good? I've had some bad cognac and bad scotch before and they were not pleasant.

I know they are expensive. A decent cognac is around $150 to start. I figure I can indulge once in a while. But not too expensive though. I ain't made of money.

                              GN,

No, you can't do that legally unless you have a license to. There's also a limit to the amount you can legally carry to discourage bootlegging. I have a license for that as well, says am permitted to carry 12 bottles :P

As for the gun, I went ahead and bought a .22 revolver, holds 9 rounds and I have no doubt the accuracy is abysmal. I wanted the .32, this one looks toyish, not a manstopper, but wth, it was cheaper and I figured it wouldn't make much of a difference since I'd be an equally bad shot at both, never having had a gun before :))

                              Shamus,
I'v found out that the 25 round limit doesn't matter, you can get as many as you want in the black market if you don't go around telling everyone and their mother about it.
