The US has the best infantry hands down. This is due to to almost every other branch and MOS as having a direct support role for out infantry. The AF, Navy, and our intel comm. The US has so much at its disposal for now, 10 years from now could be different. If it were stand alone however just grunts on grunts then I would have to say that we rank lower in comparrison to the examples above.

18 pages of posts and there is no mention of Russian or Turkish Infantry...

    My ranking is as follows:

    (1) US and UK
    (2) Turkey (Just read The Kunuri Battle, Turkish Brigade) and Israel
    (3) German
    (4) Russia
    (5) Vietnamese

Some pictures of Turkish Infantry Training....

I base my conclusion that the best Infantry units in the world are made up of........

    - My personal experience as an infantryman/Assault Pioneer for the past 19-years
(to the present) and having the privilege of operating with some good and bad
infantrymen, from other countries over those years

    - Almost every volunteer soldier is better than a conscript soldier!
(For he has chosen and wants to be there in the first place)

    - Fire-power is not always a substitute for brains and initiative!
(Vietnam (French Indo war and US war), Afghanistan (Soviet invasion)
    Afghanistan (US Coalition invasion)

    - Operational experiences!
(In most cases, this experience, hones the individual soldier and units
skills, their training and equipment development to a given warfighting
    capability)

    - Most dictatorship ran Armies capability is usually more a product of
propaganda, than actual combat efficiency and capability!
(Libyan invasion of Chad, Cuban involvement in Angola, Chinese (PRC)
    boarder clashes with Vietnam,

    - Many dictatorship run country's media and freedom of speech, do not give
a true insight into their military's capacity!
    (North Korea, Iran)

    - Many dictatorship or military ran country's are usually lavish with excellent
and modern equipment, weapons and platforms, but are usually unable to
use them to their full capability!
    (Syria, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE…………)

    - Many dictatorship ran country's so-called elite units, are more often than not
judged on loyalty or their religious grounds
(Iranian Republic Guards, Iraqi Republican Guards, Libya…………..)

    - Many country's infantry units are based on 'past' historical accomplishments,
this may not reflect their real world / modern capability to fight as modern and efficient
    infantry!
    (Vietnam, China, Poland, Hungry,

    - Many country's infantry units are or have been based on shear man-power size (human-
    waves)
    (China (PRC), North Korea…………)

    - Almost all dictatorship ran countries military forces are mistrusted by the
dictatorship / leadership, which can result in purges. This deters the
military to use its initiative or freedom of operation.
(Iraq, Iran, Russia (pre and start and during WWII)

    - Many post-WWII established countries and their military have not fought or been
involved in modern operations or war – so their metal has not been tested.
    (Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Taiwan, Africa

    - Many dictatorship ran countries military forces concentrate their efforts on countering
political / militia, internal security organization rivalries.
(most of Africa, Pakistan, most of Middle East, China (PRC), North Korea,
Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Iran, Syria, Libya, Russia…………..)

    - Many dictatorship ran countries concentrate much of its military energy and focus on
internal security to secure the dictatorships rule or civil war
    (More than half the world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

    - Some countries have a legitimate reason to have a strong, well trained and equipped
military (infantry units), due to many open and covert threats of invasion and
subversion, which puts their country at risk
(Israel – who has been openly threatened or attacked by Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Iraq,
Iran, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Kuwait, Malaysia, Indonesia and just about every other
Arab or Muslim country on earth.
Taiwan – who for the past 50+-years has lived under the threat of PRC invasion
South Korea – who has lived under the umbrella of military hostility from North
    Korea / PRC for 50+-years…………………………………………..)
Sweden, Finland – who has lived in the middle of two opposing giants – the Warsaw
Pact and NATO, knowing that their countries hold a great strategic importance to
either side in time of peace and war!

    Excellent Infantry
British, British-Gurkha, Australia, South Africa, Israel, India, Canada, New Zealand
(I have chosen these countries due to the fact that they train their infantry along the British Army lines of encouraging initiative across all ranks, and cross training of all their soldiers in multiple weapons and communications efficiency.
    German
    Jordan
(Predominantly because their military is based on the British army system of training!)

    Good Infantry
    China (both Taiwan and PRC)
    South Korea
    US Marine Corp
(The USMC is far better infantryman than their US Army counterparts - mainly due to the fact that they are trained to fight as an independent unit, and are trained to use their initiative more
    Finnish, Swedish, Swiss
(These countries infantry are predominantly trained and equipped to fight on their own terms, on their own ground in defence of their neutrality)

The role of the Infantry is to seek out and close with the enemy.
    To kill or capture him
To repel attack, by day or night
Regardless of weather, season or terrain

In terms of hand to hand combat, either Russians or North Koreans.

As for combat using firearms, it's impossible to tell because in the 21st century there hasn't been two major nations that have fought with eachother, and neither both would have had the same equipment or training.

Most say it's US infantry, but I say otherwise since they've never been tested against a worthy adversary such as Russia or China in combat, and US infantry is usually slow on the ground since they have so much equipment on, and rely on heavy cover and both air and ground support to help them out.

100 miles in less than 3 days is slow?

The US faced Russian troops during WWI and Chinese troops in the Korean War.

As I said, 21st century, never in modern times. People always tend to look back a 100 years.

100 miles in less than 3 days. I don't know how that's possible except with ground support, as I said, such as APC's and tanks, or air support and transport.

Also, I didn't mean slow as in distance wise. I meant slow in movement. You gotta admit this, I mean come on, they have 50 pounds of equipment on, I don't even consider that light infantry. You got the vest, ammunition or magazines, pads everywhere, heavy boots, the helmet weighs more than my cat, the gun alone weighs like a SAW machine gun with all those costumizations such as flash lights and handles, plus extras such as binocs and water, grenades, so on and so fourth, plus a backpack full of stuff.

They weigh alot individually and are slow individually in movement, and I didn't mean slow as in snail type slow, but I can see it when they break down doors for example. Not distance wise.

So, you would want to go back to the days of a naked man carrying spear and shield and maybe a hard hat.

There's a reason why the load was devised and it has been restricted to 75lbs, no more, no less. What we made lighter in one end, we carry more of the other. Yes, your man carrying rifle, water, and ammo may go a lot further a lot faster but he also dies a lot faster.

    I see.

Ah it's 7:46 am I was writing a response I only had about 6 hours of sleep I'm used to about 12 so I'm wasted. Can't really think of a response at the moment.

75 lbs? Wow... That's just too much.

Well it's the same as being fat I guess. :P

I want to know, in expert's opinion, if the USA or any European nations didn't get involved, if there is a war today between the whole Arab League vs. Israel with the USA nowhere in the middle east, who would win?

This also excluding nukes --- just regular ground forces, air forces and maybe even navies.
