Are we seeing a fullscale modernisation of PLA forces here or just a few headline units getting new kit?

Incremental change is always the key in China Military watching. there are a selected few units that get all the new toys and to work out all the bugs before a greater deployment. Also keep in mind, given the size of the Chinese military, it will a long while before all the old eq can be replaced (eve if money is no object). Yeah, being a quarter master must be hell.

I think what we are seeing is that the Chinese Army is growing up and leaving the mass invasion playground tactics behind for safer more managable equipment and tactics. And I hate to say this but most of the world that is downsizing their military and going to BCT and RCT's can thank the US Military for that. The US has shaken the world when it comes to these tactics. Division 86 started this. I was with the first RCT in DIV86 with 1/8 Cav having mixed Bradley and Abrams.

i thought that this was Wehrmacht policy from end of WW2, and that Bundeswehr planned to go to Brigade-based structure back in 50´s, using divisions as fig leafs?

now that they are selling wheeled AFV-s to Africans, can the Chinese sell fridges to eskimos?
