As usual, great photos. It sure can be cold in Yakima. Looks it too. Hard not to look at YFC and think of Afghanistan. I've often thought how Oregon and Washington east of the Cascades suggest such. Probably a lot of our west actually.

On the Excalibur shot, what's the device sitting on a box behind the breech with a cable attached?

That device would be the EPIAFS (Enhanced Portable Inductive Artillery Fuze Setter).

Basically the magic wand that can set any inductive fuze.

We started down this road with HMMWV and haven't looked back.

Part of the "HyPAK" Hydraulic Power Assist Kit for the suspension, its a Power Distribution box, think it even has Batteries in it if I remember correctly in the event the prive mover isnt therr to slave of via the NATO recepticle.

The 98s had HyPacs before I retired. But thats the first pic I've seen with that box. Is it the latest mod? Why put it there and take the A-gunners best place to sit down away?

Did the first Hypak have batteries? Or did it only run from teh prime mover? If you note that box is mounted on Wire Rope Shock Isolators. Im sure there are two 12 Volt Marine Batteries in there.

The backup system was 2 Marines with pump handles
