I wonder if it is possible to make a human bridge to Taiwan with half a billion people? That way, the CCP would solve its overpopulation problems.

Of course, I am being sarcastic. Just a sample of black humor.

body counts weren't the measure of US victory there.

not that i think republicanguard's "analysis" is exactly spot-on.

Most of the war examples been talk here are limited warfare, they don't really test the full capability of an Army.

At its high back in the late 80s, Russian Ground Force with their 62,000 tanks, 86,000 AFV & 43,000 Artilleries is a massive & very powerful force to over come.

And now, Russian force is still deploying 21,000 Tanks (most of them are later models T90s, T84s, & T72s), with 25,975 AFV & 15,000+ Artilleries. It's still a a powerful force.

But Current Russian troops are lack of trainning & her economy can't supprot a marjor conflict, mobilizing ground troops can be very difficult.

In a limited conflict with US Army, Russian can hold her own, but is a full scale conventional war, Russian will be defeated.

Plus the ameircans would have to have a base to camp from maybe the closest the Ukraine or somewere and they could move close in russia to the base and Scud them.

in my view the opposite. In a limited conflict Russian army will lose to most of the western armies.... even to quite small armies (training & morale).

However on a large scale and conventional war Russia will most probably win. Unfortunatelly to Russians their economy still perfectly fits to millitary needs... Today when so much of US industrial might is moved to Asia, it even has chance to outproduce US in millitary terms. All resources which Russia would need for this are domestic and internal, so war mobilization would yield high rates of arms production.

ps. Hopefully Russian economy is changing and it will soon switch capacities to more butter than guns. Today there are still too much idle capacties for guns

I'm sorry but in this case you are deeply wrong. USA is still the mightiest industrial nation in the world. You are mistaking movement of labor to Asia as for a declining of US industrial might. Not so. USA has consistently improved its industrial production efficiency and thus reduced the need for labor force. Moreso, Asia cannot match US in high tech material productions which will matter in the 21st century warfare.

Americans definately have the quality but Russian qualities in machines are improving.
The US Army currently operates around 10,000 M1s rights now.
BUt Russian concept of quantity over quality still remains.

Right now: Number of tanks in the Russian army:
    T-55 - 1200
    T-62 MBT - 258
    T-64 MBT - 4369
    T-72 MBT - 11480
    T-80 MBT - 7318
    T-90S MBT - 157
    PT-76 light armored amphibious tank - 150
    They ordered more T-90s.
In addition, the Russian Army consists of 3,615~ rotary wing aircraft and 4,712 fixed wing aircraft

    what they still have t-55???

Thats just a bit over 1/5 of the army budget.

M1A2 abrams cost about 4 million each.
T-90s cost about 2 million each.

What better capabilities does the M1 possess over the T-90?
Is it worth 2 million dollars?

The unrefuel range for a M1 is about 270 miles
The unrefueled range for a T-90 is about 650 km
back to WW2, thats like comparing T-34 to german tiger tank.....
