They're not. If they are, it's for that day only.

Would you care to elaborate on your statement, rather then sounding like a 5 year old thats got the strop.
you made a statement....with what do you base that statement on..... Experience..? , Comic Books.? or a deep love afair with the unit.?

On a point of accuracy. There are 3 Battalions of SAS in Britain; 21, 22 and 23. 21 (Artists) SAS are Part-Time Reservists and are based in London, their initial role is Long-Range Recce. 22 SAS is the Regular Battalion and 23 SAS is also Part-Time Reservists. Members from 21 and 23 SAS are currently serving in Afghanistan undertaking Long-Ranwge Recce. The US Generals are impressed with the way they work and want them to remain in Theatre.

alright, true enough and i apologize for sounding ignorant
but the JTF2, the Canadian Special operations unit, has come in first place in the International Special Forces games for the last several years, they are cross trained in every vehicle the CF and many others are equipped with.
proof of this comes from an example in Afghanistan, in 2003, a Section sized unit of JTF2 operators held a building, i believe a airport, for several days, before being replaced my a COMPANY of marines,
also, the marines later lost the position to the enemy, which they did manage to take back mind you, but the JTF2 held the position with less men and equipment
That is why i believe they are the best
And im a Canadian so im sorry if im biased :p

That's really amazing considering that the unit, as with the SAS regts, is not allowed to participate in such events.

That's nothing special. Us engineers can claim the same.

Has it occurred to you that the JTF2 brick also did alot less than the company of Marines?

Has it also occurred to you that Marines faced a stronger opposition than the JTF2 brick?

I've served with those guys and the only claim that they have to being the best is when there's beer at stake. Afghanistan is the exact opposite example you want to convey. We're ALL working together. Nobody is screwing up, forcing others to pick up their slack.

They're all brave boys - SAS, Paras, Delta, SEALS, SBS, Rangers, JTF2, etc and they all are doing their part but to claim anyone is the best? There isn't enough beer on this planet.

Sure wished you pick a better example than that. SAS Ninjas fought hand-to-hand for several hours at Tora Bora. US Delta Snipers Master Sergeant Gary Ivan Gordon and Sergeant First Class Randall Shughart's deeds in Mogadishu puts your example to shame.

I would be the last one to disparage my people but at the same time, I know the standards held by others, some posthumously, are pretty damned high.

Son, the very fact that NATO is demanding we stay in Afghanistan should tell you something.

As the Lt. Colonel said, everybody with "Military Professional" under their screen name is - or was - serving in the military of their country.

We have folks here from the militaries of more than half a dozen different countries, from all inhabited continents, veterans of practically every major or smaller conflict from World War II to the 2006 Israel-Lebanon Conflict.
