I read "Inside Delta Force" and, as someone not in the community believed it was credible.
As someone not familiar with the criticism, what exactly is the reason(s) for the criticism for Marcinko and Haney?
Also, is Charlie Beckwith's memoirs about Delta Force also to be called into question?
Marcinko, whose books I have read a very long time ago, was kicked out of the Navy for, or at least as I remembered it, pocketing public funds and was convicted by a jury of his peers. He maintained his innocence, of course. He generated a lot of antipathy because he boasted (unsubtly) how he and his unit was better than everybody else and made a some claims that are highly improbable. The behaviors and attitudes he espoused in his books are IMHO less than professional.
I read Haney and liked his book in terms of his craftsmanship as a writer. I know next to didley squat about the truthfulness of his book, but some had called him out on claiming on the cover that he was a founding member of the unit. As events unfold, it seems clear that there is much bad blood between him and some of his colleagues.
None of his claims appear to be particularly outlandish to my admature eyes however, and one of his vocal critics who was also from Delta (Fitch?) called him a mediocre operative. Which, from the size of the fishes in that pool, doesn't make a particulary effective insult.
If anybody knows more about the whole deal with Haney, I will gladly listen.

You would probably have better luck getting an honest answer from the Govt about UFOs than Delta or any SFs for that matter. Thing is, the ones that have really been there and done that, ain't talkin'. If it sounds incredible, it probably is less than credible.
OH! I forgot... Haney's account of his adventures in Hondoras links the US government to several infamous anticommunist operations that, allegedly, resulted in the execution and torture of civilians, incidences that are well known in leftist groups. He also says in his book that one American citizen and an ex-soldier he knew from Delta's Selection became a Honduran rebel leader, whom he killed. He accuses the CIA of using that soldier and than sent Delta in to kill him.
It's an odd tale.

I like to blame either Coriolis force, or the precession in the planetary magnetic field, or sometimes both. I do remember that I doubted Haney's description of the US Vietnam POW rescue mission and the events surrounding it. His description of the Central American ex-operator turncoat murder conspiracy, since he was there, I took him at his word. THe conspiracy angle, I did not agree with though.
If anyone wants to know anything about Hondo, El Sal and Nicaragua, just look up Eugene Hasenfus. He Might be back on the streets now after exposing himself at that K-Mart back in 2000. He can tell all the goods on the whole Iran-contra deal....He was CIA, (oh sorry, loadmaster on an SA flight) maybe he should write a book.....
