    Both have similar engines....

    How is this possible ?

Because they don't have similar engines. Arjun has a 1400hp engine (and a 1500hp under development), meanwhile the T-90 has a 1000hp engine. And I guess ground pressure would be another factor.

The problem of Logistics is not a small one as everyone is harping about but a real one.

No Denying the fact that Arjun is amongst the Top-5 MBT's, and probably the best you have got in Asia and would kill T-72 heads-on, but 30 years of Practising and making a war strategy around T-72/T-90 cannot be undone in 1 day. It would take time - lots of it, And as I had posted in a different thread, Problems plaguing Arjun are outside the control of Army or DRDO.
Nope, India has always had 2 class of tanks; Russian T-series and Western tanks like the Centurians or the Vijayantas (modified MKIIs). And putting the Vijayanta boys in the T-series is not undoing strategy? It is like moving them from mercedes to marutis; and yes, the Vijayanta boys are the real fanboys of the Arjun. Going from an open dopen tank to a cramped machine isn't too desirable. I was in contact with Col. BS Garewal from 17th Poona Horse; he has himself tested the Arjun and simply loved it! He and his boys took the Centurians into war. Unfortunately, I lost contact with him when I left India. My opinion is that the T-72s can be replaced by the T-90s but the Vijayanta boys should get the Arjuns. And as for logistics, has the army even bothered laying out a plan as to what exactly needs to be upgraded? Mind you, over a 100 Arjuns have already been ordered. I will believe a "qualitative judgement" when I see what exactly needs to be improved and upgraded; simply saying "logistics" is not a reason, it is an excuse. I will believe that story when the army puts fourth an official request as to what exactly needs to be done, not mere speculations said by an official or two here and there.

i believe that's not going to be too much of a problem given the high power to weight ratio

Dissimilar Combat: Arjun MBT Vs T-90S specs | Frontier India Defence & Strategic News Service

Came across a comparison in all departments.
In pure ability, the Arjun makes a killing. DRDO should think of exporting this to interested countries whether or not the IA takes it. Read somewhere that its armour took a round of T-72 at point blank range without a blemish.

IA should commit to the ARJUN. Atleast 300-500 pieces. We cannot import tanks for ever.

I think we can sympathize with doctrinal issues and logistics. But if there is commitment making gradual, incremental changes and upgrades should be possible. IA should not resist change. Otherwise with their current argument can we not ask mother Russia to start making the next T series with an assured order of a 1000 pieces ?

Exactly.........and its not like the Arjun is a waste of money either. It is a world class tank, which should actually be offered for export after being tried and tested by our army.

Russia should be buying from us (although thats never gonna happen)....)
