Unless it will use the EU's Galileo system, the GPS can be affected if the US decides it doesn't want India to have access to its satellites.
The Indian Army has just tested and completed trials for a new battlefield computer, the "Baaz," and plans to incorporate it. This battle computer has an integrated global positioning system, a radio, a customised general information service and battlefield applications with a dynamic wireless local area network spread over multiple kilometres. The device also has a self-destruction and activation feature operated by a remote for preventing misuse by unauthorised persons.
How does it affect anything?

Am out of town for a while and then have tons of work coming up at school. Will be back once that's all done.
Otherwise,
How does it compare to other systems of similar function? and are there any other than the US system?
GLOSNASS.
Looks like India is controlling either Glosnass or Galileo.
Which one ?
I would say they should use Galileo... or use the INSAT, lol.
which country has glosnass??
India has already bought stake in Galileo. Russia is always very much intrested for India's participation in the GLONASS program.
Tronic,
INSAT's cannot be used as "GPS" systems.
A grain of wheat eclipsed the sun of Adam !!
At what level will these computers be used is important.
At infantry battalion level, it will be difficult to employ, but other arms would make good use of it.
If my unit khalsa would be throughly confused by it.
I never had the benifit of GPS, but did'nt require it. Nothing beats good map reading. I'm not really from the old world but I would trust my map and compass more than the GPS (deserts are a different issue).

What to call you, Captain? The Brigadier and I are dinosaurs and you're certainly not a geek (in my army, it's called the geeks against the dinosaurs). Wonder where you fit in?
