    1st DC Cavalry

They were the primary guards for the herd of beef cattle which were "expropriated" by Wade Hampton during the Beef Steak raid a Petersburg, VA (actually in Prince George County...about 400 yards from where my son went to elementary school). The 1st DC Cavalry also had the ignominity of having been routed at the Staunton River Bridge as part of the the ill fated Wilson Kautz Raid of June 1864.

Soon thereafter a reporter asked Grant when he would take Petersburg. "Never," said the Union commander, "if our armies continue to supply him with beef cattle."

Lets just say they would not fit into the Wolverine brigade!!!

this is a question , but not a quiz question

On my local forum there is a similar quiz . And one of the questions was

´WW1 , location Africa . Engaged in combat there are 3 different ´teams´ , but humiliating defeat happened to 3 different ´teams´too . What teams and in what order were engaged in this battle ? ´

The answer was that participating were the British and Germans , and some Masai´s were the ´crowd´ watching the battle . During maneuvering the English happened to wake up some rhinos , who at first drove away the British and then the Germans . And lastly they drove away the Masai who were cheering toi their ´home team´.

Has anybody heard of this ? And what battle it might have been ?

This one will probably only go to the American side of the board.

If you are trudging up and down Agony & Misery, where are you?

Not even close....there are no hills at FT Benning big enough to earn those names.

If the Black Hats called that little slope down by Fryar Field that they should be ashamed of themselves!
