The key word here, I think, is "efficient". Foremost you will notice that since then Uncle Sam has more or less always raised the troops, not local bigwigs. Advances in communication, transport and building also means that more efficient ways of raising, moving, quartering and training recruits have come about than in previous periods. This does not mean that Britian does not do the same things, but just that Britiain retains form where the main function has disappeared (high unit cohesion is a byproduct of RS, not its primary objective), while the US army doesn't.

It is not an efficient way to man a force on the scale of the US Army.

It did during the American Civil War.
And as I like to say when that is brought up....and we also fought standing in lines and loaded our weapons through the muzzle during the Civil War, something that I would not advocate that we emulate today. )

The method used by the US Army to raise manpower in the Civil War is a lesson in how NOT to raise a national army. I could go one for days on end of the problems we had with the system.

I beg to differ, the Indian Army, (I believe) is roughly double the size of the US army and works on the regimental system.

I did not say it was a system which would not work elsewhere for a large Army. I am saying it is not a way for the US Army to raise its manpower. As others have stated our reserve forces are raised regionally since its foundation is in the militia, but the active Army has not raised units regionally for over a century.

Nor has my service to the US Army ended since I took off my uniform. But I do not base my view of the British Army of today of what I learned about them when I worked with them in 1981-1984.

I just wanted to know if it is true that the Armed Forces are underrated. I received an answer. Thats what I wanted. Nothing more.

I will now take my time to study the member introduction.

And again, thanks for your answers

i live in the states in Los Angeles Venice life here is over my first expectations because it was easy for me to find a job (I have a good education I would say). I always wanted to go to los angeles, since i visited the town when I was 20 (i absolutely love the way of life there). I have now a US Passport, because my father is american. But I was born in Stuttgart and my parents spoke always german with me so thats the reason why my english isn't not yet perfect. But it improves day by day. At the moment I am in Germany for two weeks, because I visit my parents, who are still living there. Yes that's it.
Well Eagle22, It's now been over two weeks. Allowing that you joined on your very first day back in dear old Stuttgart visiting mater and pater, you should be back in the dear old US of A by now, no?

I see that you didn't hang round in 'Stuttgart' very long (staying with the parents can be boring I know) and lit out for more interesting pastures, namely England, where you have been firmly ensconced ever since. Not a sign of an American IP, nope, not one. Care to explain?

Dude, don't get your panties in a wad over this. Pari is just doing his job. We have had many a troll in the past. If you are for real, we'll figure it out. If you are not, we'll figure that out too. In the meantime, welcome to the board.

True, but how you behave on this board is.

Sure I do. I know you claimed to have been living in the states for the past six months, that you claimed you were in Stuttgart for two weeks to visit your parents. It's been over two weeks, most of which time by the way you've spent in London, and if you'd already been in America for six months, what stuff is it you're waiting for, and isn't your place of employment asking where you are?

What I do know about you of course is that your first thread was a straight troll designed as a flame, that in it you claimed it was o.k. for you to deride the US forces because you yourself lived in and loved America which has turned out to be false: and you'd got the information from an uncle who was in the rangers, which was also false.

Everyone who makes such claims is placed under a great deal of scrutiny.

No, I have problems with people who come onto this forum and lie.

See above. Your next words had better be pretty damn good, or they'll be your last.

    I am not a liar.

As I told, how I plan my future is not your problem. I have never been to London an never said that. I love the US, and I just thought that my uncle was a bit out of date so I wanted to ask you. I told you that I was quite not sure if my uncle was in the 75th ranger regiment. First I believed him, but here I received the answers about the US forces. Thank you for that.

I worked until now for IBM Germany and from may or June 2008 my new contract for IBM in Los Angeles starts. So as you can see I have no contract at the moment, no reason to hesitate and it is not that easy to leave all you have ever known behind you. My company allowed me to go to the states, because I wanted and I have an US Passport. Hope that helps so far. And now tell me once again that I am liar. You know a lot about me, just for being a forum member. And why do you know a lot about me? Because I am not a liar and I told you my whole situation.

I have done nothing wrong. And now block me. But think about it, you'd better block peops who insist that they are Raptor pilots... (If I am a liar, I am not that much a liar as other people here.)

Your IP range provider is in the UK.

By the simple expedient of tracking your IP's, and comparing what you've already posted with what you post now.

As I've already stated, everyone who makes such claims is subject to scrutiny. You are the one who has failed that scrutiny, and even when its been pointed out to you, have continued with the same old bullshyt line, contradicting yourself as you go.
