I was thinking that a smoothbore 30mm chaingun + 40mm AGL was the way to go, but the usual choices are .50 HMGs and 30mm rifled HEDP and HEI. It seemed to me that as both of these were best suited for engaging trucks and LAVs that this setup was duplicating capabilities, and a 40mm AGL would give better infantry suppression and a smoothbore 30mm would give better results against LAVs. It would be somewhat less effective against trucks but it seemed to me that it would still be effective enough and that trucks were not something vehicle armament needed to be optimized for fighting. Is there something I am missing here as to the choices militaries have gone with?
