Removing CIWS from ship and putting them on land

This is something that makes sense then when you think about it even more it doesn't. On one hand the bases need to be protectionfrom incoming motars and what not. On the other hand I would think a ship needs this system as well. This is what I'm hearing in Canada that there might be plans to put the CWIS in Afghanistan. I'm thinking there is dust and dirt flying around wouldn't that affect it and is there any other weapon system that could do the job of CWIS but in a desert environment.

IIRC The BUA land based tests for Land Based Phalanx CIWS were not regarded as successful due to "post shoot gravity issues" ( ) in built up areas. The system shot effectively as expected, but post firing results weren't that good. What goes up, must come down, and firing thousands of rounds per minute in built up areas isn't that attractive for hearts and minds team building

FWIW, IMV as long as the system can clear its own stoppages, eg by a reverse feed etc then its a matter of getting the right FCS slaved to a fast reaction mount. (and pick the right location)

The US has been using them in Iraq for at least a year. I remember reading about it ages ago.

Don't drive or run too fast at the base. Its vision is base on movement, just like a TRex. Don't make any sudden movement and you're fine.
