What makes you think that GTRE and other DRDO agencies are not professional in their approach ?

What more u need to say about their professionalism, Taking 20 yrs & more than 1500 crores of rupees & not yet delivering a good enough tank. Tata took 3 yrs[ under 300 crores] for building Indica from scratch, they can deliver MBT in five yrs, i am sure.

The Arjun is a good tank.
As to why it is not accepted by the Army, lemontree knows better.

Apart from the engine - which IIRC they were not supposed to develop anyway, there are certain doctrine related issues, which I think has been posted in this very thread by the Colonel.

Perhaps the investment in Arjun will pay off by adding Arjun components to the T-90 being produced in India.

O this day the Arab countries staged a surprise attack on many friends, and the tank battles were horrendous. It is (one of) the worst wars the IDF has had to fight, thought it has amazing stories as well. One of them is the CONFIRMED story of Avigdor Kahalani, who with 3 moving tanks and a couple of active, stationary tanks destroyed many Syrian tanks, and stalled the whole Syrian army on the Golan Heights. Had the Syrians stormed the hills, they would have been able to take them easily, but Avigdor and his men we're shooting so accurately and destroying so many tanks that the Syrians were too frightened to attempt to take the hills. You can read about it in Avigdor Kahalani's book, Oz 77 (Oz=Glory, which was his callsign)

There's another book " Heights of Courage" which discusses this battle.

First ,the thread is about asian tanks so in this case The Colonel (OoE) wasn't talking about american technology, second of all he's not american (and anyway we take much offense when you claim there's no professionalism here) and third or maybe even first if you'll look over the forum you can see what his background and expertise he's got.
Since we're talking abot Asia including Rusia too, I guess he's right there's no other country there with that kind of experience. Just in the Kursk situation the russians had 3600 tanks, 20,000 artillery pieces and had laid around 400,000 land mines.
Meantime israelis, all due respect, had no tank until the Merkava ,relying only on imports.

    Colonel he's all yours! Enjoy

We must also consider the strength of opposition. Seriously, Syrians and Egyptians?

Sir it was regarding all the negative points which the Col.shukla raised. A little explanation from a civilian point of view, to make it more digestable .

It is listed in this thread. To be brief, it is overweight, does not have compatible tank transporter, rail wagons needed are different. I belibive there was some issue about the fire control system too.

    Cheers!...on the rocks!!
