I personally think that the Stryker will save Allied lives in the Sunni Triangle. That's what counts.

A side note: Am I the only that favors the term "Allies" over the term "coalition"? I F--king hate the word "coalition"!!!:flamemad

The term Allies refer to those partners carrying out formal treaty obligations.

    Some questions:

    1) Can the Stryker be fitted with chicken shields?
    2) Can we put sandbags on the side?
    3) How many men can it transport?
    4) Can it be fitted with any weapons besides the .50?

    3. not enough

While I think that the styker/lav bde will be ok for what we have them doing right now, I get just as ill as snipe when I think about them trying to fill the role the US army wants them to in combat. Ie a not very effective speedbump againts a Soviet TO&E motor rifle division.

The Soviet Union is dead, so that isn't a problem.

Yeah, but the Soviet model of warfare isn't, and many people still use it

Do any of them have 173 divisions and 20,000 nukes?

Nope, then they aren't a major threat.

North Korea, China (PRC) have that many troops, maybe not nukes. Iran claims they have that many troops, probably not true, unless they mobalized all their forces inc. reserves.

China only has 75 Divisions(around 115 including reserves), North Korea has around 90 divisions. The majority of both forces are not mechinized unlike the Soviets. Iran has far less then both of these.

The IBCT can withstand an assualt by a Soviet motor rifle div - by acting as bait for TacAir.

Short answer is yes, Canada is getting replacing Leo C2s with LAV-105s.

Long answer. Canada will retain two Leo C2 squadrons (C Squadron, Lord Stathcona Horse (Royal Canadians) and A Squadron, 8th Canadian Hussars (Princess Louise's)). C/LdSH (RC) remains the sole SABRE Force in Land Force. A/8CH (PL) retains its role as the arm'd school sqdrn.

The LAV-105s are going to LdSH (RC) other two sqdrns. Their roles are going to be Direct Fire Support - ie glorified recoilless rifles.

"I have to admit, if I had a choice between tooling around in Baghdad in a Humvee or a Stryker, I'd go with the Stryker.
Imagine if Task Force Ranger had been hauling ass through the Mog in a convoy of Strykers instead of Humvees? "

You see all the RPGs the skinnies were using? Firing down from rooftops?

And you'd want to ride in that?

"Yes, they arent Bradleys but then a wheeled vehicle is better in a MOUT environment than a tracked vehicle and an armoured wheeled vehicle is better than an unarmored one, IMVHO."

Why do you think wheeled is better in MOUT? The US siezed baghdad using entirely tracked combat vehicles...weren't any strykers there(thank god for the guys in them).

"BTW, are those smoke-dischargers I see around that M-2?"

    Yes.

"They need some damn chicken-shields on that Duece! (Right Snipe? "

A remote control MG that can be fired buttoned up like the M-1A2(pre sep) and older would be MUCH better.

Then again, so would a 20mm and tracks and armor be better.

PS...colonel, there are no 25mm guns on most strykers.

    PSS...they still don't 'fit' in a C-130 as advertised.

The whole thing is a scam. This vehicle does NOTHING that the M-113 hasn't already done since 1950.
