that doest mean much ... sense everything is relative. The defacto British empire was the largest and the mightiest in its time. For example, the Roman Empire might be dwarf by the empire of caliphs, but we shouldnt take the days of glory of caliphate as our reference point just because we like it so. Every empire should be compare the relative situation during their time IMHO |

You can't make the Roman Empire the greatest. The British Empire is the greatest until, in 500 or more years, someone surpasses. It won't be America, it won't be Rome and it won't be Canada. The British Empire is THE largest and THE greatest ever. Get the chip off your shoulder and stop denying it. NO country nowadays, even the US, will surpass Britannia. No matter how cocky or arrogant you become. The greatest ever was the British Empire. At its height the British Empire was almost 7 times bigger than the puny Roman Empire at ITS height and you want to use the Roman Empire as some sort of "reference point"? The Roman Empire was tiny compared to Britannia. Britain would have swallowed Rome and spat out the pips. Last edited by Boltonian : 01-23-2007 at 22:43 PM. |

Saying "The US has thousands of nuclear weapons whereas the British Empire didn't" isn't good enough because NOBODY had nuclear weapons in 1921 when the British Empire was at its height because they weren't invented. And the US now probably won't have weapons that a superpower in 100 years' time will have. And I'm not being jingoistic by saying that the British Empire is the greatest ever. I'm stating a fact and I've even shown you the 50 biggest empires ever, the British Empire being hnumber one. What can I do? Lie and say it was only number 32 even though it was number 1? The British Empire was number one. In 2007 it remains the largest empire the world has ever known. It's not my fault. That's just how it is.
