Relatives and wars
What wars have you had relatives in?
For me (that I know of): - WW2 - US Marines, US Army Air Force, US Navy - WW1 - US Army - Zulu War - British Army (he was at Rorke's Drift, the battle in "Zulu") - Civil War - US Army My dad was ordered to report to the recruiting station on May 4th 1970 to go to Vietnam, but he was disqualified because he had flat feet lol. Ive also had numerous other relatives in the British Army, but I dont know when. And im sure I have had more in the US military. |

1948 Indo-Pak war - Indian Army (Corps of Signals). 1965 Indo-Pak war - Indian Army (Army Medical Corps). 1971 Indo-Pak war - Indian Army (Army Medical Corps). COIN ops - Indian Army - (Infantry). I'm still hunting for WW1 and pre 1900 info on relatives.

Five relatives (2 great-grandfathers and 3 of their brothers) fought in the First World War. Two were killed, one wounded, another deserted, married a French woman and moved to Canada, and the fifth came away more or less intact. Quite a story behind the deserter, but I'll leave that for another day.
Four (1 grandfather, 1 grandmother and 2 uncles) served in the Second World War. My grandfather was with the BEF and returned to France on D-Day. One uncle was lightly wounded in an air-raid while on leave. My grandmother was in the WAAF and her brother fought in North Africa. One of my WW2 uncles also fought in Korea. My brother fought in the Falklands, though you wouldn't know it if you knew him now. He also went to Northern Ireland a few times. Speaking of Northern Ireland, my best friend from school was killed in South Armagh in 1988. We have a few ancestors who served during the 19th Century in various places and capacities, and We know of one relative who served under Clive of India in the mid-Eighteenth Century. Most of them were infantrymen, probably because they were too working class for the RAF and the fear of buggery kept them out of the navy. Or so the family joke goes. |

First generation borned in Canada. The rest of my family was in China for the past 1000 years. The better question for my family is who has not seen war.
If not in direct combat, they were forced to surrender crops to starving armies.

Grandfather Army WW2
Father USN Peacetime Brother USMC Somalia Me Barely missed the uprising against the Soviets in Vilnius, Lithuania. Cut my teeth (and got a few chipped) having at the Church Of The Creator. Currently trying to square away being engaged to a lass that isn't much liked by either a totalitarian Russian or a wannabe Arab. And does having my sleeves rolled up and trying to find out if some missing mail is the work or some criminal POS or maybe even some ******** abusing the patriot act and stealing with impunity count? And while the source seems rather iffy, supposedly had an ancestor that took part in the battle of Tours, in Charles Martell's camp. Looking into any and all bloodbath's the fam cut across Medieval Europe is the closest thing to a reason for ponying up the money for a geneology site. ) My Father's side has had members in WW1 through the Cold War. My Great Great Great Grandfather served as a guard for the Crown Prince of Germany durring the Franco Prussian war, before that side of the family came here. All ties were broken then, and little is known of my Father's family history before that time.

My dad's uncle was in the fighting during the seperation of India and Pakistan, pervious to that, we had one ancestor who scaled the walls of the King of Kashmir's castle to sort out personal differences with the king, only to make a run for it once the guards found out, back in the olden days......
asides from that, we where rich farmer folk......didn't do war. |

You mean the First war in Kashmir in 1947...right? The only fighting that took place during Partition was when hordes of Hindus, Sikhs and Muslims were killed in Punjab and Bengal. That was'nt war, it was genocide. |
