Most Medal of Honors in a single battle ?
While almost everyone knows that the 1879 Battle of Rorke's Drift in SOuth Africa holds the record for the greatest number of Victoria Crosses (11) won in a single action in the British military what is the battle in our history where the most Medal of Honors were awarded?

That said, though, there WERE real heroics at Rorke's Drift.

Most likely Iwo Jima. 27 MoH were awarded. Of course this is after the reforms of the early 20th century. During the Civil War every soldier in the 27th Maine was awarded the medal for 4 days of guarding Washington DC on 30 June 1863. So 864 Medals were awarded for that act. (All were purged in 1917) |
