The horrific nature of the attack and immediate aftermath are reflected in the statistics. Many of the victims whose names are inscribed at the site are simply presumed to have died in the attack. I don't doubt that they were, but the task of identifying remains was daunting and never completed--for good reason. Looking over these statistic I felt much as I did the day the attack took place.
