A 2,900 word story about a commander's spouse's delusions of her own importance and abuse, by proxy, of authority resulting in the near dysfunction of a major combat unit and it's attached family support organizations and damage done to promising military careers for petty and self-serving reasons, and what is the follow-on discussion about?

What ranks command what types of units

    Just a humorous observation. :P

Welcome to the WAB, mate! Every thread guaranteed to get hijacked at some point along the way, just hope and pray that it's slightly relevant...

Since I've been gone a while it isn't really a "Necro Post".

Funny Story that applies to this thread. And it ws so funny I remember it like it was yesterday.

    Long ago, late 1980s.

Young Cpl Gun Grape is in the Commissary one Saturday, waiting in line with my geedunk and cigarettes. And this being a payday weekend, the line is pretty darn long but I'm near the front. A older female with her cart, and attitude strolls up to the young girl about 3 buggies ahead of me.

She asked the girl what rank her husband was. Young girl tells her that he is a Corporal. Older female replies "My husband is a Colonel and the CO of 2d Marine Regiment. So I'm going ahead of you. I have things to do."

About that time, Older Lady about 5 buggies behind me says in a loud voice " Excuse me but My Husband is General Grey, Commanding General of 2d MEF, And the line starts back by the meat section."

Everyone within earshot let out a big Ooh Ra and started clapping.

So, while I'm at work doing research for a brief I'm giving to our U-2 crew tomorrow, I come across THIS li'l story. Interesting. I retain the name of that battalion commander and the unit he leads, the guy in the picture talking to General P. See, I'm actually doing my brief on the 4th BCT, and especially the 1st and 2nd Battalions' AOs.

Then, I come home and read the OP of this thread, and there he is AGAIN! Very strange.

LOTS of coincidences in my life the last few days. Met friends that live in Pennsylvania in Vegas over the weekend that we hadn't seen in 6+ years. Well, you ask, what's so strange about THAT?

The fact that they were 10 doors down the hall from us on the 23rd floor of the South Point.

    Other weird stuff, too.

Kinda getting to be hard to be a skeptic...

It was the husband that wore the rank so what gave her the audacity to talk down to another wife simply because her husband was a Corporal. Well done the Generals wife.
