    Former StratPage Alumni Thread

For grins and giggles, I checked out Strategy Page tonight and it was almost as dead as GG's necrochicks! Many of the threads are simply SYSOPS posts. I guess once Terrance "lightning bolts from their arse fastrope" Jones left, the quality just went downhill )

I think it is fair to say that SP has ceased to be an interesting place.

The Oz board tends to divide its time between esoteric & jargon laden discussions of equipment, of 'What if Australia had bought F-14s' type threads. It is a pity, because there are some good folk there who I would love to see more of on WAB.

On the US board the lunatics have well & truly taken over the asylum. Threads like 'is Obama Evil' are commonplace, while some members still can't bring themselves to actually use his name. There are a handful of 'liberals' (including DarthAmerica, who switched sides, I think he said it is because he is black), a handful of relatively moderate conservatives & a huge chunk of Glen Beck's audience. I check in once in a while to find out what the lunatic fringe is thinking & whack a few nutjobs.

The Israel board is dead, the China board seems dead & the 'Armed Forces of the World Board' is rarely worth the effort.

Apart from Darth, a few favourites do persist: 'Herc the Merc' is still posting trash; Zhang Fei (who I think got canned on WAB) has become king of the loons on the US board; CJH is still offering a good working definition of what a 'Talebangelist' is; Tigertony remains incoherent - though he seems to think the world is ending soon; Sentinel28a now looks like a screaming liberal & Herald12345 mostly yells at people (esp Darth & TigerTony) about how right he is.

SP used to be an interesting place, but weak & biased moderation let the loonies take over.

Oh, and Terrance Jones is still around Shek, or at least he was late last year or earlier this year. He was going by 'DGreat1' (modest as always) & flogging his self-published trash. No one much bothers to engage him.

    The Good ol' Daze

Yup. Had some nice discussions there.

Always enjoyed the sparring. Swhitebull around? TJkhan? DropBear?

Carl S. and I had some fun with W.W.II. Met A.R. really through discussing (what else?)) the civil war, specifically Gettysburg.

Aussie gunner, gf0012aust (whom dropped by the other day)...

    Ah, memories...

swhitebull pops in occasionally, but having purified the board of any dissent against Israel he doesn't have much to do. Dropbear is there occasionally as is Aussiegunner.

TJKhan is a little busy these days in the NSW Parliament. I haven't seen him contribute much since a moving piece on Rudd's apologize to Aboriginies. I think GF is still in contact. Must drop him a line one day.

I look in on occasion to see what I don't miss anymore. Yikes! Talk about inmates running asylums. I remember meeting Mike Golf there...he would have been a good fit here. Darth....haven't thought of that name in awhile.

I think my SP highlight was the day I taught Shek it was called a Halligan Tool....not a Hooligan Tool!

There's no reason it can't be used to beat down some hooligans!

    Stratpage

I visit there every so often, mostly for entertainment purposes, and to see if my old posts have fallen off the board. At the rate people post now on that site my posts will be up for several more years at least.

Pretty much a disaster of a message board; antiquated software, poor moderation, infested with trolls, etc. I confess I did not know anything about Dunnigan or war gaming when I stumbled across the site (via a Google search on the Iraq war and an Austin Bay article popped up which linked to strategypage's message board) and started posting. Also I was never too impressed with the SYSOPS articles.

So I can't say I miss posting there too much, I'm sure the trolls that are left don't miss me either as I didn't exactly endear myself on that board. Oh well, all the best posters have moved on to WAB. Speaking of WAB I have returned here after a break...real life is getting busy.

How's life across the pond? Have you started teaching yet?

Dude, which is why you are an Emeritus...such wisdom!

I do still enojoy the CIC bits and the daily little tidbits in my in box.

But the threads are nothing but Dunnigan and staff doing digital masturbation.

    Fun Threads

Allwyn-Foster and LANCET stand out. HUGE thread that boiled up when the Brits got taken captive by the Iranians in the Gulf. Anything where Terrance Jones/Maverick/Braddock showed up was sure to be entertaining as he was the one soul you could count on to draw Spider Shek from his lair.

The history board had some good stuff. I remember a good spat about the CBI theatre with some of the commonwealth guys and some good Civil War stuff because of A.R.

Oh! One more cool guy, I think, AussieEngineer maybe. Seems he worked on the M777 howitzer for BAE Systems. Good guy who we should probably have tried to salvage.

Thought Shek knew some senior NCO over there who worked at the Pentagon. Maybe had lunch or met when at SAIS. He was interesting but can't recall his handle.

OldGrunt. Hopefully, he's back up in upstate NY by now. He had served at Drum and wanted to buy some land in the AO and be truly retired.

    Old Grunt

    "OldGrunt."

    Yup.

Drum. Never saw so many toads in my life. Walked back a couple of Klics one night in August on a dirt road to our battalion TOC. The road was LITTERED with toads by the thousands.

I've seen GF correct SP articles on submarines a number of times. Entertaining style, but not sure about the factuality of the content.
