I can see the reason for Drug and alcohol abuse being an issue in the Forces but how do you police smokers? Using illegal drugs is an offence for all, smoking is not(at the moment). The Forces would need to discriminate against smokers in uniform whilst allowing non-military to smoke. They could of course ban all smoking on military property but I could see a huge exit of the work force. It will be interesting to see how this one pans out. If it gets the all go then I can see it happening in the UK as well. They tried it once many years ago and it died the death at the first hurdle.

"Politicians making policy", I think sums it up. They screwed up Vietnam and every war since. Seems like they just can't leave well enough alone, ever. I say watch and see, and if they can't pull this off, then something else ridiculous that wastes time and money and pisses off someone, will soon be in the works.
