Obviously if he had shown his passport or license he would have been shown to a room, not the door.....

Which just shows how bad this incident is, they just discriminated against him as he was in the military. They had no other basis for the decision, if he was a civilian he wouldn't have had a problem.

I must admit, I have never been asked for ID when booking into a hotel in the UK.. The point being made here is that the manager refused solely on the fact this person had a Military ID. I don't approve of trashing hotels/pubs etc unless there has been physical abuse on the basis of their being Military. Like most people, we don't want to see thugs roaming the city centres trashing places just because they can, and if it was in the name of the "Military" then that is a no-no. Times have changed in the Forces over the years and I have a feeling that the "Family" Regimental System is not the same as I and Tankie remember.

I can't speak for other Regiments but the 'Family' Regimental system is still very much there in the Coldstream Guards, probably because we have escaped all of the Regimental mergers that seem to be so common.

Oh and being the oldest serving regular Regiment in the British Army has given us time to get it going)

Yes, I think the mergers have had a lot to do with it. I know in the RTR it certainly didn't go down too well. I can never see the Senior Guards Regiments ever amalgamating, too many old Generals in their Private Clubs huffing and puffing over port will see to that.)

'THE RIFLES' seem to have coped well with the merger, but that might have something to do with the Regimental traditions are being kept up in the separate battalions, so there was no point in the merger really. Unfortunately as people leave and the new recruits go into any battalion (traditional recruiting areas will be messed up) the family feel will die.

Oh and thank God for the Generals and their port)) If there was any Guards merger it would be the Irish, Welsh and Scots. They know that mixing Grenadiers and Coldstreamers is a step too far

For the mother of the Corporal - America (USA) is better for now. For how long? Who knows; they are such a fickle bunch. As a US Marine in the 70's I had to have my uniform cleaned after most 'Color Guard' duty in the San Francisco Bay area. I was spit upon many times, called 'baby killer, etc...,. One of my goals in participating where and as I do is to encourage the citizenry to show respect, and hopefully appreciation, for our servicemen.

To the mother of the corporal - Please accept my thanks, my appreciation, for supporting your son, your country and the fight against jihad.
