Rumour control question.

When I was at prince sultan airbase in saudi (on and off 2000-2002) there were both brits and the french also operating out of the same base. Rumour was that the brits and french both each got a significant stripend from the saudi governement for being their and that the US was also being paid by the saudis but our gov being the tight arses they are was holding the cash. (we did get a $3.50 per diem) Was wondering if any of the brits we had on here were aware of this and could confim or deny the validity of this rumour. The one that you guys had beer in your mess I know to be true though I can't say if it was just an occasional rare thing or if it was constant. Also wonder about the french to but don't seem to see as many of them about the forum.
