    Turkey threatens Greece with war

    Turkey impends Greece with war
I'm now going to translate a german article. So I'm sorry if some things are not translated very well.

    Turkey threatens Greece with war

It's a classic owngoal of Ankara: Although Turkey needs Greece's support in the EU the turks threaten their neighbors Greece official with war.
The "Casus Belli" (Case for a war) is a new strategy paper of national security that was now ratified by the government and military of Turkey.
This should had been ratified before the beginning of the negotiations about Turkey joining the EU on 03. oct but was adjourned for not to put out the greece government before that important date.
This worry was justified. The strategy paper that now passed the national security council in Ankara is a curious document for a state that would like to join the EU:
Should Greece widen their territory of might up to 12 nautic miles in the Ägäis it would be a reason for war for EU-joining candidate Turkey. The press comentates that the military did put through against the government in the security council.

In Ägäis turkish main-land and greek islands are located only a few miles from each other. The placement of the borderline is controversial. Nine years ago both countries almost got into a war about an unoccupied rockisland. Meanwhile both countries approached each other but the demands on territory weren't solved yet.
Although Turkey is much bigger than Greece and it's military is much stronger and both countries are NATO-partners turkish army fears to be heckled by it's western neighbors. Again and again turkish' and greece' fighter jets are doing mock fights over the sea- The military of both counties are accusing each other of injuring current territory.

Despite the commenced conciliation of both countries since the spontanious help of both countries after two heavy earthquakes in1999 turkish politicians and generals believe to have to show toughness in Ägäis question.
The president of parliament Bülent Arinc claimed in spring the turkish government should annul the official threat of war of 1995 against Greece, what didn't happen. This threat has retained in the new strategy paper of the security council.

Indeed, that is why Turkey should never join the EU.

That's a very poorly written article.
"Above all, we must realize that no arsenal, or no weapon in the arsenals of the world, is so formidable as the will and moral courage of free men and women. It is a weapon our adversaries in today's world do not have."

Do you mean the article or my translation?

It's not very detailed in miltary and political prehistory but it gives the central point.
All in all you're right. The source vienna.at is not very competent.

Let the Greeks go to war against the Turks! Long have the Greeks allowed these infidels to occupy Asia Minor and Constantinople.

Let the banners of the Eastern Empire rise again.

May an Orthodox Roman Emperor sit once again in his throne in Constantine's city!

Tear the minarets off the Aya Sofya! Let it be a mosque no longer, it shall be the Church of Holy Wisdom once more.

May the Turks break and fall underneath the crush of Hellene spears! We shall drive the Turks over the mountains of Asia, back to the Euphrates.

About 60% of the Turks would endorse an Islamic God state. So the article makes references to who actually pulls the strings in Turkey.

As a matter of principle, yes. Turkey knows the conditions for entry and if it fulfilles every point of it nothing speaks against it.
The largest, problematic differences are humanitarian aspects as well as Turkey does not want to admit the genocide at 100.000s of Armenians as well as Turkey is not willing to solve the Kurds problem satisfiable.
Also economically Turkey is still not so far for a long time, but is however on a good way. I believe to remember they have the 2nd larges economic grow behind China with something about 8%.
Another point is the geopolitical factor, as the US have a big influence on Turkish decisions and in doubt the Turks probably would try to force american interests through in the european council.
Contemporaneous EU would have alot of conflicts right infront of it's housedoor while Turkey now appears as a kind of buffer zone between the western and the eastern hemisphere.

The CDU is determined to to tackle the decided negotiations of accession and according to own stating will not make a backdown.
However the CDU/SPD coalation will put more worth on the adherence of the demanded conditions, then the SPD together with Die Grünen would have done.

I dont think turkey will ever attack greeks. They do not have the financial power. Just stupid threaths. No way they will join EU.

But i dont understand greeks as well. One of the poorest econ. country in EU still louder than a gun. Will any EU members be on greek side in a war? higly doubtful due to market interests. Big boys in EU will not prefer greeks against turks. Greeks have nothing for EU just poor econ, no industry, no minerals..? Are they actually different than turks?

Why are you guys pissing each other?
