How did that go? Anything come out of it?

UK demanded Russians change their constitution to allow extraditions. It's just political posturing not a "threat to independence" by a long shot.

Unlike with Russia , we have not had wars with UK on 20-40 years interval, as is usual for the past 1000 years with Russia.

edited to add - this is currently 17th year since re-independence.

    Yes, that explains a lot
Just imagine a situation, when Germany, France and say Italy, suddenly decide to leave the EU in order to form their own enclave. How long the rest of the EU will stay together?
That's very close to the situation, that led to the SU collapse.

    I love the word FREEDOM!

    It is relative.

    Patriot Act!

    Snooping into private lives!

    Freedom Indeed!

There is a difference between invasion (as happened to the Baltic Republics with regard to Russia in 1939) and applying to join NATO. One is voluntary and involves no death and the other is war and opression!

can you shove your Yankee go home attitude where the sun don't shine? Just becuase the US isn't perfect in no way gives some one else the right to be a brute, or imposes on some one else the requirement to submit to domination.

    Ray/Sir,
Some of us feel we have no need to fear the Patriot Act. I can see if one was doing something completely illegal or planning some kind of terrorist act. Myself I have nothing to hide (They have looked at my family for several reasons and still not one problem with security clearance or other) they can listen and look all they want. The only thing that would anger me is the fact of people tax money being wasted. However it does offer a positive side to being able to listen in on people that are connected and have the thought of a terrorist act here in the U.S in mind. For that reason alone I am glad its there.

Can you shove your US uber alles nonsense?

US is appearing very pathetic in case you did not realise. All gas and no go. Did you not see Saaskavelli practically weeping at the Press conference which Markel?

Ask Iran, North Korea, Pakistan who is dominating! They are no friends of mine, but I sure believe in level playing fields.

I presume you take it that the US invaded Iraq with kid gloves, right?

Chum, while George Bush is the best thing that could happen to India, it does not mean I sell my soul!

Or do you want us to be your next generation of slaves, this time not in slave ships, but First Class on Air America?:P

Please understand that there are people, beyond the shores of the USA, who also live!

    Read Shylock's statement -

To bait fish withal: if it will feed nothing else,
it will feed my revenge. He hath disgraced me, and
hindered me half a million; laughed at my losses,
mocked at my gains, scorned my nation, thwarted my
bargains, cooled my friends, heated mine
enemies; and what's his reason? I am a Jew. Hath
not a Jew eyes? hath not a Jew hands, organs,
dimensions, senses, affections, passions? fed with
the same food, hurt with the same weapons, subject
to the same diseases, healed by the same means,
warmed and cooled by the same winter and summer, as a Christian is? If you prick us, do we not bleed?
if you tickle us, do we not laugh? if you poison
us, do we not die? and if you wrong us, shall we not
revenge? If we are like you in the rest, we will
resemble you in that. If a Jew wrong a Christian,
what is his humility? Revenge. If a Christian
wrong a Jew, what should his sufferance be by
Christian example? Why, revenge. The villany you
teach me, I will execute, and it shall go hard but I
    will better the instruction.

I sure hope you have had some education in literature or else this will be casting pearls before swine!

The real golden rule- he who has the gold, makes the rules.
    That is the sad part.

Since you are blind, you are not realising that is exactly what Russia is doing and you are all taking a running jump!

    Zraver,

It is time you read and understood the agony of Shylock!

Understand that and you will be a better man sans your misplace arrogance!

link to pictures supposedly taken by an amateur from south ossetia

    English Russia ŧ Ossetia

as for the war i feel there are many parallels with this war and the 1971 war of Bangladesh's independence, the united states reaction was the same for one thing, however i hope what happened in 1971 repeats itself and Russia lets the south ossetians form their own country soon.

    Dreadnought,

I am tired of this Holier than Thou attitude of Americans out here.

Lets be frank, as I always say, we are all sinners. Sooner we understand, the better.

Each nation has its agenda and very rightly so.

Dominance is the badge of all our tribe!

If a Defence Minister of a country, invited by Georgie himself, can be strip searched, it speaks how ridiculously stupid that country can be!!

Imagine, I invite you to my country and ask you to be my guest in my own house and then check your luggage every day to find out if you are a thief, I must either be daft or the biggest idiot on both sides of the Suez! In fact, an ar.sehole would order a strip search a defence minister invited by Georgie Porgie Pudding and Pie!

So, as Jerry Lewis in Nutty Professor said - Cut out the gas and get on with the order!

Sometimes I wonder if Nationalism is impedes democracy by blinding citizens to believe whatever their Nation's cause.

I am not referring to any country, but every country there is out there.

If everybody for ONE day, just brushes aside all that "love for the country" indoctrination, and look at the problems we have from an empirical and impartial point of view, we might actually be able to solve them.

Are all of US's foreign policies correct? Was Russia correct to respond in the manner that She did? How are people able to exercise their democratic rights if nationalistic feelings sways their bias to their nations' interest? Would people then be able to democratically steer their country away from a path of destruction and grief?

    Something to think about...
