Just go to the Essential column on the left side of the page and click on Military Pay.

Cheers. At work now so I can't do a proper table, but it looks like for new entrants before allowances my table for US pay is about 10-15% low. I'll take a look at allowances, etc. at some point - I've got a friend visting tonight and I'm at RMAS over the weekend for a course.

    Reason 1:

Research and Development: A HUGE of the budget goes into R&D that gave us wonderful things like stealth, low probably intercept AESA radar, Aegis combat systems, etc.

    Reason 2:

Maintenance: Bigger your forces, the bigger the maintenance bills.

    Reason 3:

Operating Costs: Bigger your forces, the higher your operating costs. How much does it costs to run a carrier per day?

British Army - source Armed Forces - a12a1 - British Army - Army Pay Scales April 1 2006 - March 31 2007 and assuming £1 = $2 (roughly current exchange rate), taking the lower rate and level 1 so giving minimum pay for each rank.

    E5/E6 Sergeant $53,500
    E7 Staff/Colour Sergeant $59,224
    E8/E9 WO2 (Company Sergeant Major level) $64,260
    E8/E9 WO1 (Regimental Sergeant Major level) $68,808
Can someone familiar with US military pay please take a look at the US figures - they seem awfully low in comparison with the UK, although I was aware that UK troops are rather better paid. However, for a new recruit straight off the street to be paid the same as a US first Sergeant seems a tad unlikely.
The tables are out of date. Try this, http://www.dfas.mil/militarypay/2006..._Pay_Table.pdf

For example, an E9 will make $60-65K based on when someone will actually make it. Then you add on approximate $3K for food and more for housing depending on where you live.

Cheers, but again that runs into the problem of comparing how pay rises with length of service in the two armies - the UK has a "scale" system rather than one purely based on length of service, and I have no idea how to correlate the two. Ideas, anyone?
