31-08-2010 11:13 Expert says China plays crucial role in military-technical cooperation
The first state visit of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych to China, scheduled for September 2-5, will be crucial for the intensification and development of military-technical cooperation between the two countries.
This opinion was expressed by the chief of research programs at the Center for Army, Conversion and Disarmament Studies (CACDS), Serhiy Zghurets, at the 1st National Forum of Defense Industry in Kyiv. The expert noted that China is one of the three states with which Ukraine is closely cooperating in the field of military and technical sector. "The hierarchy is as follows: Russia, India and China," Zghurets said adding that such a conclusion is made on the basis of military-technical cooperation between Ukraine and foreign partners last year. He also noted that Ukrainian companies have worked and continue to work with the Chinese side. "With China we develop projects like the construction of amphibious ships "Zubr". China buys our aircraft engines, including for L-15 - this trainer in the future may be purchased for the Ukrainian army," he said. Among other priority products that Ukraine supplies to the Chinese market are also radar means and naval purpose products. The expert noted that China is interested in almost all modern unique Ukrainian technologies in a military-technical sphere, but the problem, he says, is that "over the past 5 years China has made a significant progress in the development, as a result - the number of points of China's interest in Ukraine has dropped". Therefore, Zghurets concludes, the Ukrainian president's visit to China and planned meetings with representatives of top military and political leadership of this state will strengthen military-technical cooperation between the countries.
