They are most likely the guards for the ambassador, who is attending the openning ceremony. Professional guards should not be wearing these military fashioned gears.

And yeah, "girl" like guys are considered handsome in Asia...

Coming back to Iraq's new oil field, news has come in that it is planning a next one in Southern Iraq. Tenders are being called. This seems to be about double the size of the first one mentioned above.

Iraq Tenders To Develop Key Halfaya Oil Field

Mar 13, 2009 VIENNA -(Dow Jones)- Iraq has tendered to build a 50,000 barrels a day crude oil production facility at one of the world's largest oil fields in southern Iraq, according to a document obtained by Dow Jones Newswires Friday.

The untapped Halfaya oil field, 25 kilometers southeast of Ammara, the provincial center of Missan province, has an estimated production capacity of 250,000 barrels a day. ...

Iraq, a founder member of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, is desperately seeking to boost production and renew an industry that has been shackled by years of war, sanctions, underinvestment and violence. ...

Don't take it too harsh. All reasonable people can see you were joking.

Do you think that the Chinese authorities wouldn't have thought about those things? or are they some guards for some VIP's?

The Chinese are on an energy spending spree right now which makes sense as prices are low. They are acquiring oil fields and production assets like there’s no tomorrow!

Is this the first time the PLA/PAP have been deployed to Iraq since the onset of Operation Iraqi Freedom?

The suggestion is that they're Diplomatic Security but still, anything over 20 minutes standing in the sun, I want head cover, especially with a visor. Sunglasses or not, cutting down glare increases your vision depth.

I know they look like they're ready for combat but the body armour lacks neck and shoulder protection. I would like to see a scope on those rifles. Depth perception is a real problem in the desert. Scopes eliminate that.
