North Dakota will now save us all, Thank You Very Much.
Do a quick google: Bakken Formation. Reliable estimates in the low hundreds of billions of barrels. Light, sweet crude. Think it's hype? Wrong. My family owns mineral acres in the area. This is the real deal.

Actually there is alot in that area. The bad lands for instance, Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park and more. Although it might be our answer there are many a folks that dont want drilling taking place in that area. Some of the reasons..dino fossils, Ellis AFB, plus the very ownership of the Black Hills as far as I know has never been settled. The Army took it but kept others out telling settlers the Lakota Indians owned the land. Washington held conferences with the Indians but were never able to solve that problem.
If the ownership still resides with the Indians then they would by assumption stand to gain quite a bit of money. Guess we will find out. And if it is their land then perhaps this time we should do the opposite and treat them much more fairly then the govenment did way back when. Wishfull thinking.

This is not new news, they have known this since 1953, but now with Oil price up the roof, it is more profitable drill for it.

And that second spot of oil under your car is from the Dakota's. If you want to play oilman, our oil and energy reserves in Canada even after supplying your country with a little over 90% of it's fossil fuels every year are mammoth and there are still huge deposits that are known but not needed. Just the tar-sands alone in Alberta makes all the oil produced in Texas seem sink sized. Not to worry though. Our Government will find a clause or treaty somewhere that insists we keep on selling our fossil fuels to our American friends at half the price they charge us. For example, today in Kingston I have to pay $4.80 a gallon($1.20 a Litre). Tell me where in the U.S.of A. anyone is paying anywhere near this amount. Don't tell me it's because of our social programs either since our two currencies are virtually equal now.

How much do your respective governments charge on gasoline/petrol?
Here in California, various federal and state taxes make up roughly 20% of the cost of gas. As of today, my neighborhood station sells gas at about $1/liter. |
