My first thought was last night from the news report was - the bridge collapsed.............

Car plunges into St. Croix River, 4 hospitalized

A car with four people inside plunged into the St. Croix River late Sunday night.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office received a 9-1-1 call at 10 p.m. from one of the occupants trapped inside the vehicle.

Emergency crews, including the dive team, responded to the scene located about one block east of Main Street and a quarter-mile north of the Stillwater Lift Bridge.

Rescue divers broke the car's windows and pulled the passengers out within five to ten minutes after receiving the 9-1-1 call.

Police say all four occupants were transported to Regions Hospital in Saint Paul. Three of the victims are listed in critical condition. A fourth is in fair condition.

The State Patrol has been called to the scene to reconstruct the accident.
