"You?"

Home in Wisconsin on leave watching the greatest light-infantry tactical march since W.W. II.

Total studs.

Agreed.

We heard it over AFN...they broke into the techno-pop crap that was playing to announce it. About 5 minutes later they called cease fire over Range Control Freq and announced it. You could hear cheering from the ranges all around us.

Bloody hell! Didn't that used to be known as the 18 years Undetected Crime medal? If you had been awarded one of those in the old days you stood a good chance of getting a much reduced sentence from a Court Martial. They would take the medal away and the old sweats saw it as a useful piece of insurance!

A very good friend of mine collects Enfields from the ACW. He now has over 30 of them...many 2 band Enfields. I have its American counterpart, an M1861 Springfield Rifle manufactured in 1862 hanging on my wall at home.

However I have my eye on a Long Land Pattern Musket (Brown Bess)...but it will probably have to wait until I win the lottery.

Saw it on the news, in the comfort of my living room, when the officer came out of his shellhole and said, "There are white flags over Stanley"

I would occasionally come across a Brown Bess when I was in the antiques game, but of course they are older pieces than the 2 and 3 band Enfields, and the condition was not as good. In particular the wooden furniture had often cracked due to the wood shrinking with age. As for rust.....let's not go there! I saw some that had been sensitively restored and they looked great.
