Zimbabwe - Election!!
Who in here has any doubt that the "elections" in Zimbabwe are rigged? How can a dictator in all but name win 6 out of 6 (including the as yet undeclared win) so called elections in a row?

Vote counting has started in Zimbabwe after an election that will decide whether President Robert Mugabe wins a sixth term in office. His rivals are Morgan Tsvangirai of the opposition MDC party and former finance minister and independent Simba Makoni. The Movement for Democratic Change said that early results showed they had won the poll, but gave no specific figures. "We have won this election," said Secretary General Tendai Biti early on Sunday, "this trend is irreversible." Mr Biti based his statement on partial unofficial results based on details posted at polling stations where counts have already been completed. BBC

If, as they claim, the MDC have won it will signal the biggest "upset" in African politics. Mugabe blames all Zimbabwean problems on "western plots" - I wouldn't mind seeing his bank balance either in, or out, of power.

Despite initial claims of the oppositions win I don't see Mugagbe giving up power voluntarily. I'm waiting for government claims of a coup as an excuse to invalidate the election and keep Mugabe in power by force. I hope not but that's what I expect.

The official results are still not in despite the MDC claims of a win over Mugagbe. Is this stalling, a recount or the first sign of Mugabe invalidating the election?
Quote:
The delay in announcing these results is fuelling speculation that there could be something going on," said Noel Kututwa, the head of the Zimbabwe Election Support Network which was an official observer on election day.
"The announcement of results in a timely, transparent and accountable manner helps reduce tensions following any election."
The opposition had earlier questioned the impartiality of the ZEC, a theoretically independent body whose leadership is appointed by the president.
"We don't trust the ZEC, which is not independent," Biti told reporters.
The electoral commission however insists that the delay is necessary as the country is holding simultaneous legislative, presidential and municipal elections for the first time in its history.
"It was a big election, the results have to be credible ... so we advise you to just wait," the body's chief elections officer Lovemore Sekeramayi told AFP.
Mugabe's spokesman George Charamba meanwhile fired a warning to Tsvangirai, who has twice been charged with treason, against an early victory claim.
"He announces results, declares himself and the MDC winner and then what? Declare himself president of Zimbabwe? It is called a coup d'etat and we all know how coups are handled,"

Unoffical figures give the opposition 67% but, for some reason, the govt are delaying announcing results whilst the head chef cooks the books - again!

If Mugabe "wins" again, could we see a public action of will it be limited to some protest, a beating here and there and unstable machete prices?
