Oaths of alleigance for British children?

- Google News

Take your pick of the stories.

Is it just me, or should patriotism produce ceremony, not ceremony produce patriotism? I doubt this is going to chew at any fundamental problems at all.

The American Pledge is to the Country and not to the President.

Looking at other Sites and their comments, this is not a path the British want to go down. Lord Goldsmith had better look somewhere else to get his KG.

Was it me or was there only ONE English boy, no Scot, Irish or Welsh? in all that, and did I read a reference to Islam?...............its already doomed before it starts, like everything "they" will always try to make us ashamed to be British

This one gets my goat the most.

With an oath of allegiance, people are going to feel they have to betray their countries for Britain.

You can't force anyone to do anything. Look at history, look at Hitler, that's dictatorship.

Look around this school - a lot of people, or their parents, weren't born here but they're proud of who they are. They come to make money, for their children's education.

For me, my sense of belonging comes from my religion, from Islam.

When did the UK become part of the Middle East?

Makes my issues with our immigration problems look trivial

In my day, we used to recite the school prayer every morning, as well as sing the National Anthem, when we went to the picture's (movies for our American friends) the Anthem was played at the end of the show, and people waited and paid respect, the words Loyalty, respect and dedication seem to mean nothing nowadays....................I RESPECT ISLAM BUT NOT AT THE COST OF MY FREEDOM, HERITAGE AND RIGHT.........I have no problem when I am in an Islamic country when all stops so they can show there backsides to the west............I respect it, nor do I scream out for C of E churches everywhere, along with fish and chip shops and Teltleys beer. Why cannot that happen in the UK?.....Why cannot most Moslims show respect of other countries.

When did the UK become part of the Middle East?

Is this really how the modern day UK looks or is it just the BBC trying to pander to a specific segment of the population like many of our "mainstream news" sources to with the illegal immigrants and Hispanics in general when asking questions related to our immigration issues?

What? You brits making your colonial subjects swear allegiance to the empire on some remote corner of the globe again?
