About this "recession"
You know how we hear that we are in a recession with banks failing, people can't pay their mortgage, gasoline price hitting $4 a gallon, and a bunch of other sob stories? A group of socialist politicians want the banks to help people through this tough time by reducing their interests. They also want the evil oil companies to decrease their already slim margin of 3% to 5% to help folks during this crisis.
Have you noticed something that we have NOT heard from these politicians who care so much about the average "working" American? Reduce taxes. These holes of asses have no problem asking businesses to decrease their revenue but b!itch moan and whine when anyone tries to touch the government's revenue. News flash! Fully 20% of California's gasoline cost is comprised of taxes. Where do you find a business making 20% margin by doing nothing? California's state budget was a paltry $80 billion roughly 7 years ago. It's approaching $140 billion today. The population has increased by 10% or so. The budget increased by 75%! Where can I find a job that gives me a raise of 75% over 8 years? I hope these socialists go sleepwalking under the moonlight on the freeway. ![]()

Here's a graphic depicting input costs for gasoline:
![]() Also, it is important to note the main reason why gas prices will rise in the next few months: 1. Increased demand during the summer months as people travel during summer vacations as well as travel more during warmer weather. 2. The switch over to summer blends, which means more costs as refineries have to increase the number of blends, decreasing their scale economies in producing just a few blends. This is mandated by law to create "cleaner" blends of fuel. Another reason for increased costs is due to the ethanol requirements, which is causing inflation and increased emissions, from a supposedly environmentally friendlier biofuel that will help the American economy.

How much of that is caused directly by the booming ehanol demand? Is there a way to find out?
Also, according to my research using Wiki data for gasoline tax here: Fuel tax - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia and my personal records of gasoline prices where I live (actually one of the places with cheaper gas price in CA), taxes comprise roughly 22% of the cost of gasoline. Wiki data is from 2007-07-25. My personal records show gasoline prices at that time was around $2.85. $0.63/$2.85 = 22.1% I still say if our government really cared about easing people's pain at the gas pump, kill gas taxes. Of course that's not possible. Let's pass some laws to tax oil companies to help out the folks. How that works I have no idea. ![]() |
