This from a communist fellow travelling anti-Apartheid protester who now parades as a conservative.

Now I'm REALLY confused.

I agree with Bigfella too, enjoyable for him to be suffering, not worth the loss of freedom.

The part I don't agree with is the enjoyment of his suffering. That's wrong.

'ZACKLY; that's what I'm saying to crooks.

crooks, you let the state take away HIS freedom because you don't like his message, and your freedom is no safer. I don't like YOUR message most of the time, and if that's the rules we're all playing by, you better hope like hell I'm never in a position to send the Gestapo to YOUR door at 3AM, buddy.

And if THAT is true, all of a sudden, the levers of power ARE worth killing over, and just like that, your country becomes just another banana republic with a revolving door on the presidential palace, and a peaceful transfer of power is just a quaint notion that died with everybody's freedom to say what they want.

The fact that that the state is inflicting it on him is wrong, and if it weren't the state then it would be kidnapping, which I don't support either.

He assaulted his opponent when he ran for European Parliament, committed torture during the Algerian War of Independence, denies the Holocaust (although he probably wouldn't do so openly now and I in no way think it should be a crime!), wants to reintroduce conscription (for what?), and if he could get away with it, he would probably expel everyone who moved to France in the last 60 years. His campaign against Sarkozy was just based on calling him a foreigner because he has some Hungarian ancestry..

He's a scum bag, and that shouldn't be a crime, but even though I totally disagree with criminalizing any speech, I feel no sympathy for someone who among other things has committed torture.
