Is a religious body actually a poltical movement?
All I see is politics when religion comes up. Aren't we dealing with giant poltical bodies when it comes to religion? I can sometimes put on my reading glasses and see through it all. What is happening? How can it be corrected? The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins is a must read for me. What about you?

As for correcting it, well that's impossible - Politics and Religion will always exist, and due to fact that members of any Church will always hold both, they'll always step on each others toes when it comes to influencing views.

ISLAM, on the other hand, is a whole lot closer to what you're talking about, because it's much, MUCH more than a religion. ALL things are subordinated to their silly little fairy tale, while Christianity reserves its beliefs for the spiritual sphere. Islam has no such compartmentilization. But I bet that isn't what you wanted to talk about, is it? Well, rave on about the grave threat posed by the Religious Right, as that seems to be the only thing that hides under YOUR bed. boogabooga.

Religions are like anything else man made, they are full of people with their own agenda and pushing to use whatever tools they can to achieve it.
The danger is when the religion is used to wield political power. The main reason for the danger is that close followers of religion have as their defining trait an irrationality. Such credulity should really be a disqualifying factor when dealing with real world political actions. There is hope. Man has gradually opened his eyes and can see most of the myths for being exactly that. However those who leverage their political power from those myths will continues to propagate them and they will take some time before they can be consigned to the shelves with their peers of Greek and Roman mythologies. |
