There won't be a civil war. Somebody from the Bhutto family will succeed Benazir and if elections are held before six months from today her party is going to win big time.
So if Musharaff doesn't want that - Be prepared for another three to six month emergency period. |

Pakistan's Bhutto Killed in Attack
Pakistan's Bhutto Killed in Attack
Thursday December 27, 2007 2:01 PM By SADAQAT JAN and ZARAR KHAN Associated Press Writers RAWALPINDI, Pakistan (AP) - Pakistan opposition leader Benazir Bhutto was assassinated Thursday in a suicide attack that also killed at least 20 others at a campaign rally, aides said. ``The surgeons confirmed that she has been martyred,'' Bhutto's lawyer Babar Awan said. A party security adviser said Bhutto was shot in neck and chest as she got into her vehicle to leave the rally in Rawalpindi near the capital Islamabad. A gunman then blew himself up. ``At 6:16 p.m. she expired,'' said Wasif Ali Khan, a member of Bhutto's party who was at Rawalpindi General Hospital where she was taken after the attack. Her supporters at the hospital began chanting ``Dog, Musharraf, dog,'' referring to Pakistan's president Pervez Musharraf. Some smashed the glass door at the main entrance of the emergency unit, others burst into tears. One man with a flag of Bhutto's Pakistan People's Party tied around his head was beating his chest. At least 20 others were killed in the blast that took place as Bhutto left a political rally where she addressed thousands of supporters in her campaign for Jan. 8 parliamentary elections. Bhutto served twice as Pakistan's prime minister between 1988 and 1996. She had returned to Pakistan from an eight-year exile Oct. 18. Her homecoming parade in Karachi was also targeted by a suicide attacker, killing more than 140 people. On that occasion she narrowly escaped injury. THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Check back soon for further information. AP's earlier story is below. RAWALPINDI, Pakistan (AP) - Pakistan opposition leader Benazir Bhutto was assassinated Thursday in a suicide bombing that also killed at least 20 others at a campaign rally, a party aide and a military official said. ``At 6:16 p.m. she expired,'' said Wasif Ali Khan, a member of Bhutto's party who was at Rawalpindi General Hospital where she was taken after the attack. A senior military official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to comment, confirmed that Bhutto had died. Her supporters at the hospital began chanting ``Dog, Musharraf, dog,'' referring to Pakistan's president Pervez Musharraf. Some of them smashed the glass door at the main entrance of the emergency unit, others burst into tears.

Mushy will round up the usual suspects and life will go on after another period of martial law.
Every ****ing dime of aid (tax payer money) should be canceled. Sort of funny that the radical "opposition" only seems to target Mushy's only opponent. |

Samudra -
The only person in the Bhutto Family who could step up would be Fatima Bhutto - the daughter of her assassinated brother Murtaza. Fatima has had a continuing spat with BB, that intensified after her return. Murtaza Bhutto's family still holds BB responsible for his assassination. While Fatima has refused to get involved in politics at this point, it remains to be seen whether BB's death will reunite the family and the party. Some events do take on a life of their own, I don't see this one having any major effects. There will be the usual riots and teargassing, and life will go back to normal. Contrary to what the Western Media reported, BB did not have the sort of massive following that could ignite Pakistan. It will be interesting to see how the Media handles this with the new regulations - I hope it's a move towards highlighting the malaise of extremism in Pakistan, rather than from inciting and blaming the GoP.

Well, well, well. Can't say I am too surprised but a little bit surprised.
I really hope that GoI, IAF, and IA special forces are really brushing up their training and plans to take out the nukes. If Musharraf goes, it is time to take out the nukes. |

Troung,
With her statements of "wiping out the terrorists in FATA" who do you think the Terrorists would go after? The "other opposition" that Musharraf has consistently talks about "Busharraf killing our Muslim brothers in Pakistan", and a complete pullback of the Pakistan Army/FC from the Tribal areas. You honestly don't see why they would go after BB? |
