Defence funding to 3% of GDP

Petition to: increase Defence funding to 3% of GDP by 2012.

Please sign this petition. It is the only one I have seen that doesn't allow the government to gloss over their half measures. A total of 200 signatures by February will ensure a reply from number ten.

We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to increase Defence funding to 3% of GDP by 2012.

Although defence spending increases steadily, it increases by small amounts and remains lower than needed to defend UK interests. The UK National Defence Association calls for a level of defence spending at 3% of GDP. This is still lower than the level when the Falklands Conflict was fought.

I hear Internet petitions were voted "the most influential thing in our policy-making" in a 2006 Gallup Poll of Britain's MPs.

I wish I was a UK subject and I would sign to help out the UK's military but since I am not I will still wish you the best of luck with this petition since I know how bad the UK military is being gutted and destroyed with the budget cuts and whatnot.

30% progress - 60 signatures so far

I need 200 signatures before 18th Feb 2008 to elicit a response from number ten. Let's sustain the pressure on the Prime Minister to act on this.

We weren't taken seriously either. So much for democratic protest.
