Sensible, Plain Speaking Aussie.

What a brilliant idea....

Message from a hard working Aussie

I work, they pay me. I pay my taxes and the government distributes my
taxes as it sees fit. In order to earn that pay cheque, as I work on a mine site
on a Kalgoorlie construction project, I am required to pass a random urine
test, with which I have no problem.
What I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to people
who don't have to pass a urine test. Shouldn't one have to pass a urine test
to get a welfare cheque because I have to pass one to earn it for them??
Please understand - I have no problem with helping people get back on
their feet. I do on the other hand have a problem with helping someone sit on
their asses drinking grog & smoking dope.
Could you imagine how much money the state would save if people had to
pass a urine test to get a public assistance cheque?????
Please pass this along if you agree or simply delete if you don't.
Hope you all will pass it along though, because something has to change in
this country, and soon!

Must be clean and sober to get a government handout. I can hear the howls and wails from the entitlement crowd. Sounds like a great idea to me.

And then there will be a massive government bureaucracy set up to test welfare urine. After that, a thriving black market will emerge to help the welfare recipient to pass the urine test, either by providing with clean urine or teach them how to cheat the system. The ACLU will then file lawsuit to contest the invasion of privacy without a court order. Race peddlers will scream racism because more of the welfare recipient aren't white.

You get my drift.

That's actually a very good idea - Welfare's gaping flaw is that many take advantage of it (though like him I agree fully with the principle).

Nothing would be saved. It would be a huge cost. Could you imagine the staff necessary to piss-test every HUD, medicaire, social security and unemployment recipient?

I absolutely believe that elected officials should be regularly tested for drug use. They have our lives and futures in their hands. Welfare recipients do not affect me in anywhere near the same manner.

Here is a little story that you wont at all be interested in: Once a friend handed money to some homeless guy, and I told him he was dumb since the guy was an alcoholic and was just going to go buy whiskey with it. He told me it didnt matter what he did with it because it was up to him to take advantage of the help he was given or to remain in the same terrible situation. In other words, his handout was a genuine gift, and not social engineering masquerading as a gift.

Exactly. That's what libertarians and conservatives want. Generosity from people to help others.

Your friend wasn't forced to part with his money. There's no law or rule that prompted him to do that. No one pointed a gun at him or threatened him with prison sentence. Yet he still willingly gave to the poor! What is up with that?

There is good in all of us. Most of us, if we are able to, will give willingly to help the poor and the needy. We do not need a social engineering project to forcibly divert resources from the haves to the have-nots.

Do you know the excuse I use to never donate anything to any charity? I pay taxes. I always tell those who ask me to donate that I will if they petition to reduce my tax burden.

What the hell am I doing in a thread where the words sensible, plain speaking, hard working and brilliant are all applied to an Aussie.

Oh come on Pari, don't be coy, you know you want to move to the Gold coast and become one of us.
There are so many Kiwis there already it's a wonder the Broncos don't do the Haka before each game.

Cheers.

Actually with your current lolly scramble tax cuts I'm bloody tempted. You guys have something like a 25% better standard of living than us now. Around Melbourne would be my pick though....
