Official Saudi website for fatwas

Unlike Christianity which has officialdom (CofE Synod, Vatican proclamations etc) to offer "authorised" pronouncements, Islam does not have such accepted bodies. This enables the radicals to authorise their own interpretations.

Could this new website be the first step in such a process of regulating Islam?

Would such as body help?

Saudi Arabia has launched an official website to publish Islamic legal rulings, or fatwas.
The move is apparently an attempt to ensure that fatwas issued by authorised scholars are given prominence.

Visitors to the new website will be able to ask questions on various topics and get replies from the Council of Senior Ulema (Islamic scholars).

Interesting, both Egypt and the house of Saud vying to be the official voice of Islam. Some sort of counter to the Council of Guardians?
